Since physics 6B is not a prereq for 6C, Is that doable? Am I going to miss a lot of stuff by not taking 6B before?

The standard physics quarter system sequence:
1st qtr physics (6a) mechanics
2nd qtr physics (6b) cats and dogs
3rd qtr physics (6c) electricity and magnetism

I don’t think you will miss cats and dogs much with respect to 6c. The only thing might be skipping three months or so without doing any physics at all. At the same time, have you gone through the math requirement already rather than taking it as a co-requisite? That might actually be an advantage.

But it would be good to get an opinion from those that recently took those classes from ucsc.

What is the difference between physics 5A and 6A?

Yes, I am already done with the math requirement. I already took up to math 23A, so I don’t think math is a big problem to me

@needforspeed: 5A is the course for physics majors. It’s much tougher. 6A is the lighter-weight version for people in other sciences.

@ryanpan: I know a lot of people that don’t take 6B at all because their major doesn’t require it, but do need to take 6A and 6C. It doesn’t seem to be a problem at all.

It won’t matter one bit. In most colleges people usually take Electromagnetism before the Optics/Modern Physics class anyway.
