Physics at Minnesota

Now that I have been admitted there, one may wonder how is the academic environment there at the PhD level. How cutthroat is it? How hard are the undergrads on the TAs? (My offer comes with one year of TA or two, depending on my ability to secure an advisor during the first summer)

I understand that research (whether experimental or theoretical) comes with its own stresses, though.

From my experience, Physics is not one of the cutthroat environments in CSE. Chem, Math, ChemEng and CompSci tend to be the roughest from both faculty and students on TAs. You say that you understand that any research post comes with stress- so if you’ve got that mental preparation, you should be fine in Physics. It’s demanding, but not vicious, IMHO.
