I'm curious if anyone has opinions on what the difference would be majoring in physics at NYU as opposed to an "Institute of Technology"/"Polytechnic" type school (like RPI, Stevens). Because I plan on majoring in physics, and I have been pretty much attached to NYU for the past 3 years, but I'm not sure if it would be my best option for my intended major.

Should the fact that I got no responses be a sign that physics at NYU is not quite popular? lol

Im a freshman physics major (female) at nyu! I also applied to RPI and similar schools last year. I must say though--if financial aid is a big issue, you will most likely receive more help from RPI (especially as a woman in science--I got a women's scholarship there).
So far, although i havent been here very long, i must say my professor for Physics 1 is very impressive, and directs my most interesting class this semester by far. I am actually thinking of asking him if i can get involved in his research. I personally am planning to take the Astrophysics route. The department is definitely of good size and variety compared to other schools (some schools i found the physics dept. to be practically nonexistent). I wish I were further in my studies so i could give you more feedback on the major at NYU!
As far as the school goes, i love it! If you enjoy the city, consider yourself to be reasonably independent, and are open to A LOT of unique personalities and backgrounds, you will probably do well here.

---also, i forgot. If you want to go more technical, nyu has an engineering program with Stevens in NJ too. I know many students who are taking this track. This way you can get the experience of a technical school and nyu in one program.

I'm a freshman physics major at NYU and its awesome! Although financial aid sucks somewhat, I'd say def apply and then compare financial aid packages later.
