Does anyone know about the quality of the Physics department at Binghamton? I know that Binghamton is great all around academically and is good in engineering, but it is otherwise not known for science being one of its strengths.

I am not just talking about the quality of the degree, but the happiness of the students. Do they have a good relationship with professors? Are the class sizes small? Are the classes interesting?

I think the classes get smaller as you progress in Physics. Professors and TAs can be very helpful when you ask questions because they know their stuff very well.

This is a little redundant, but I think if you want to be happy as a student you should be interested in the topic, and try to understand what’s going on and if not then ask someone in the department (doesn’t have to be your specific professor or TA). You can have a great relationship with the professor or TA by just talking to them during office hours about whatever.

Somethings you may find interesting and others not, but there are some pretty cool things you learn about.

I know the advice I gave you isn’t really concrete and it’s bland, but if you need anything more I’ll try to answer (I’m considering majoring in Physics).

It’s very small. Only seven people from the class of 2010 graduated with a physics major. Most people who are interested in physics usually just go to engineering.
