Picking a good school?

I'm looking around for colleges, and I'm finding myself to be a little overwhelmed by the amount of schools sending me mail and email- I usually get between five to ten a day, and I have no idea which ones are good and which ones aren't. One day I got so frustrated I actually burned some, hehe.

Anyways, I'm just looking for some suggestions of schools that would be a good fit for me. I'm a sophomore, ranked number one in my class, with several AP classes under my belt, straight A's, and plenty of extracurricular involvement, including volunteering at a hospital and at a therapeutic riding center. I'm interested in going to school for premed, prevet/animal science (exotic or equine focus), music (voice or composition), anthropology, or history.

I'm not opposed to anywhere in the country, but cost is an important factor. I'm hoping to get a partial to full ride somewhere, since we can't afford to send me somewhere expensive without a scholarship. I live in Wisconsin, so places like UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee are on my list, but I'm interested in leaving WI.

So if there are any colleges out there that you'd recommend with a good academic program please share it with me. Thanks!!

We can’t really help you without at least a GPA and SAT score. -.-

Since you don’t have those, it’s completely up in the air what colleges may be right for you.

Best of luck in your college search!

Use the CC college search and also the book The Best 373 Colleges. First try the search on CC and put in your major and do try to narrow down your states or regions, and put in 4 year schools. You should be able to get a good start. I have no idea what schools offer pre-vet/veternary medicine. But that’s very specific so you should be able to narrow it down fairly quickly. My husband went to U. of Wiss., Madison. You have a great in-state option to start!

I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet, I’m only a sophomore, but PLAN and EXPLORE tests say mine should be between 29 and 34. And I’ve got a 4.0, unweighted, I have no clue what my weighted GPA would be.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I’m still not a hundred percent sure if I’m going for prevet, premed, or music yet, but hopefully I’ll be able to decide- and find the right school.

Wisconsin and Minnesota have a tuition reciprocity agreement, so WI residents can attend Minnesota publics and pay WI tuition. You should consider UMinn-Twin Cities especially since you want to be outside of WI and cost is a concern to you.

I’d heard about that, but never really checked it out. I love the Twin Cities- I was born there, and they have a great choral legacy. I never thought about that before- thanks!
