im looking for schools that have good financial aid and that are in the south or midwest because i hate cold weather..
and diversity ethnicity wise.
so far i have
emory/oxford
george washington university
UGA
baylor university

Although this school is probably a reach because your GPA is somewhat low for it, I would add Rice University to your list. However, Rice has one of the more HOLISTIC admissions process of the top 20 universities… as long as you clearly demonstrate your insights and passions on your essays and have EXCELLENT recs, I think Rice may admit you despite the fact that your GPA is below their range. Rice is known for doing this sometimes.

Rice has excellent financial aid (both merit and need-based) plus one of the nation’s best music schools if you are interested in studying music on the side. It looks as if you are interested in pursuing medicine or biological sciences; Rice has an excellent pre-med and biology program, plus TONS of medical research opportunities since it is adjacent to the world’s largest medical center, Texas Medical.

Also, look at Duke… this is a reach too, but I think it suits many of the characteristics that you are looking at.

Nevertheless, wherever you apply, please do not list all these extracurricular activities… list the ones that are the most meaningful to you and that you are most committed to.

I would look at Case Western and Ohio State. You should also look at your in-state flagship since with those scores you may not get much financial aid.

Try U Rochester, Pitt, Vanderbilt, and Carnegie Melon

Thanks so much you guys!
I feel like Duke and Rice would be too much of a reach for me…

and I looked at Case Western but it’s so cold in Cleveland I don’t think I could handle it, same with Rochester, Pitt, & Carnegie Melon.

Although I have looked at Vanderbilt and I really like it, but I think it’s too much of a reach for me also.

@ OP:

It is always good to apply to one or two reach schools. Although Rice is a reach, it looks as if you would be able to convince them, through your application and essays, to admit you. If you describe your special circumstances, I think they will understand.

even with my low act/sat scores?

I think Baylor would be a very good match for you.

They have a great biology/premed program, as well as a fair music program and plenty of aid that they offer. Also, their student body diversity has grown recently; I think minorities now represent nearly 25% of the population.

Edit – I also think that you should consider Furman University (SC), in terms of music and overall academics, although I don’t know about diversity.

the midwest has pretty miserable weather also, I was turned off by Purdue because of the weather.

as for the south, UNC, UVA are great schools if you can get into, UGA and Georgia Tech are also great as well as Florida and Miami.

Can you retake the ACT or SAT? If you raise your score by a couple of points, you will be in the running for Rice… the 25-75 percentile of ACT scores for first-year students is 30-34. So if you could raise your ACT composite to a 30, 31, or even a 32, you will be in the running. Your GPA will still be somewhat low for Rice, but as I said earlier, they are very holistic in their admissions process. If you focus on your passions in your application and put a lot of effort into your application focusing on your medical research and what you are doing to raise awareness of cancer, you may be able to get into Rice.

Lol. Purdue does have pretty bad weather during the winter. Last winter it was -40’s and we still had classes. The weather also changes every hour literally, one hour its sunny and pretty, the next hour its downpouring.

how is UGA’s financial aid?

Rochester, Pitt and Carnegie Mellon don’t meet the OP’s “warm weather” requirement. Moreover, Carnegie Mellon would be a reach considering the OP’s low SAT scores.
