piercings...

hey yunz.

i've been wanting to get my ears pierced for a second time (on the lobe), but my dad has a huge problem with this. he's as conservative as conservative goes and is absolutely against the prospect of 1+ piercings on each ear.

could anyone give me tips on how to persuade him to let me pierce them again? eventually i want to get my cartilage pierced, but i can wait until i'm 18 for that.

thanks <3

Well. while under his roof....what about getting some magnetic ones that you can wear for fun and show him its nothing permanent and maybe he will get used to them.

What my Ds told me, well at least its not the tongue!!

i tried them, but i can't wear them for more than an hour because they hurt like a mother.

my dad isn't convinced by them...i've been trying to make do with those for a year, but it's not working that great.

thanks anyways.

"they hurt like a mother"

Funny.

My mom won't allow me to get my ears pierced, too. She's a religious fanatic. She says that "God doesn't like those kinds of things."

Can't do clip/screw-ons?

Cartilage piercing = not good, but I won't do the mothering thing. :)

i've heard some very terrible stories about cartilage piercing...so i'm still debating on whether or not i should do it, which is why i've promised myself i'd think on it for two more years and then make a decision.

i've tried clip-ons and screw-ons...it's like eating a scoop of sugar-free, fat-free, taste-free vanilla ice cream when someone next to you is chowing down on a banana split (are those good? i've never had one...).

well, they really do hurt like a mother. hee hee.

LOL!!!!!!!

step up and do it yourself?
ice + clean safety pin + soft backing (like a pincushion).
see how long it takes before dad notices.

okay, I can't guess the parental reaction, but I think it's your parents that need to adjust, not you.

hey, at least you're not wanting something ugly and conspicuous on your face. or wanting to gauge your earrings to the point where you can stick a pinkie through.
there's a lot worse you could do.

(and no it doesn't hurt, heck I've pierced my own ears three times)

Ouch!!

My mom's trying to get me to get my ears pierced a second tome but I'm too chicken :(

morada, you are my hero. unfortunately, my parents are on my back like white on rice.

i think i'll try the "mature" route this time. i'll explain that i really want this because i love to wear earrings and i think it looks loverly. also, i'll mention that i'm prepared to deal with the consequences (i.e. infection, scarring if i take it out) and i'll pay for it if i have to. if that doesn't convince him, i don't know what will. hmm...maybe i'll ask my mom first. she's not as conservative as my dad...plus, she's italian. everyone in my mom's family (including my 76-year-old grandmother) has either 2+ piercings on each ear or either one or more tattoos.

sucharita, why are you scared? it only hurts for a second...if you were getting your cartilage or belly button pierced, then even i'd be scared because those seriously hurt (so i've heard).

gracias para su ayuda (if that's wrong, don't care...i'm terrible at spanish and last year i finished my foreign language credits).

I don't like any kind of pain :(

At-home piercing is extremely dangerous, especially cartilage piercing, so please don't do that.

I recently learned that tongue piercings are one of the leading causes of heart attacks and other coronary problems among young people now. Apparently there's some artery that connects from the heart to the tongue, and the piercing can damage the artery and/or cause infections later on. I read an article about it at my dentist's office. Pretty gross.

I had my ears pierced when I was 8 months old (my grandmother took me and did it; my mother still hasn't forgiven her), but I've never worn earrings other than when I was little and was going to something "special." They're just not my thing. I think some piercings can look good if done the right way, but I guess I'm just a little old-fashioned. The whole "puncturing my body without need" thing is just too much for me. :p

Yeah, the tongue thing is true. A lady in one of my horseback riding lessons used to do peircings/tattoos for a living, and I asked her about different peircings/tattoos that I was interested in. She said after 10 years of peircings, out of all the places (I mean, all), she hates to do the tongue the most - there are two veins in the tongue that if not centered precisely can leave the person bleeding for a few days - plus, she's always nervous she'll later hear that one of the people she peirced had a heart attack or something.

I got my ears peirced originally when I was about 4 in Germany. This summer I went to Germany and got a double peircing - I didn't remember how much it hurt or healing time. My second holes are still giving me trouble though...just yesterday the one started bleeding again, and it's been about a month. Eh, I don't recommend doing it at home, haha. Luckily, my mom is pretty relaxed if I want to peirce my ears.

Try talking to your mom - my mom is less strict than my dad. Buuut, the funny thing is, my dad is Indian (my aunt, his sister, wants me to get my nose peirced) and still against peircings of all kinds.

You may just have to wait. I don't like the cartilage earrings unless its a hoop, otherwise the back of the earring looks odd

Living in my city, we see EVERYTHING...nothing shooks anymore

The tongue piercing is bad because it chips your teeth and that is permanent...I have seen many people with cracked and chipped front teeth and its because of the tongue piercing

My D wants to do her belly button, fine with me, as long as she goes to a good place.

One guy at our local Walgreens had a piercing betweent the eyegrows and he would wear these pink balls things, he looked like he had boils or growths because of the color, I don;t get the ring through the nose or lips with the chain to the ear, I would be so afraid it would get caught in something

Private_Joker, you might try pointing out that Rebekah had a nose ring (Gen 24:22).

^ i know that was meant for private_joker, but can i use that as well?

my family is italian...which means we're diehard Catholics, so that would possibly work.

"At-home piercing is extremely dangerous, especially cartilage piercing, so please don't do that."

so true! there's a lot that can go wrong.
BUT I'm willing to vouch that piercing your own earlobes isn't dangerous, as long as you're clean and attentive and not being stupid about it.
just saying.

sorry milady, I know I was being immature in my last post. but hey, it does save a lot of hassle, if negotiation won't happen.
