Anyone have experience with nose piercings?

Okay, so I really want to get my nose pierced. I just want a little stud; nothing super blatant or distracting. However, I (and my parents) have a few worries:

Pain/blood. I hear that it hurts and bleeds for a few weeks after you get it pierced. And I don’t think I have a problem with pain (although I’ve never gotten a major injury so I wouldn’t know), but I get lightheaded really easily when I bleed or even just see blood. I gave blood once and I just about fainted before they even put the needle in me, just from looking around at other people. >__> Could I handle this?

College interviews. My parents are all, “it might affect your chances!!” But I don’t think it’d be too hard to take out the ring and cover the hole with makeup, if it would really be that detrimental to my interview. But do you guys think it would make a difference?

Maintenance. I know it’s a lot of maintenance, and I don’t even have my ears pierced, so it’ll all be new to me. But is there anything I should know?

Any opinions are welcome. I really want to get it pierced before the end of the summer, and my mom is cool with it, but my dad is like, “wait until you’re 18; let this be your first bad decision as an adult.” I turn 18 next March, so it’s not THAT far off, but… :/

Get your ears pierced first.

I tried piercing my ear with a sterilized needle before. The next day I realized that it was too much work and the earring made me look like a flaming homo so I let it close up.

If you do pierce it, it's better to pierce it yourself.

Flaming homo hmm Liist.. LOL.
;)

My sister got her nose pierced. She said it didn't really hurt that much.
And I agree with Liist, ears first.

I don't trust myself to do my own piercing... what if I messed up? >__> And my parents would never let me.

I'll ask them if they'd be in support of my getting my ears pierced first as practice... that sounds smart. But they might find it unnecessary (and I couldn't care less about my ears. XP)

Your nose stud is just one more thing for your dad to grab onto if he gets ****ed off.

You really can't mess up piercing yourself unless you forget to sterilize the needle.

Scary thought. :O

But nose piercings are permanent, right? Like, the cartilage doesn't grow back? So what if I did a bad job? D:

Nose piercing holes aren't that noticeable.

You absolutely must get your ears pierced first though so you know how to take care of your nose piercing. Nose piercings tend to get infections easier, and you need to know how to avoid that.

It doesn't hurt any more than getting your ears pierced. And like Liist said, you can't really mess that one up.

And if you take out the piercing, there will be no evidence of a hole, but it will take a few months to completely heal. If it becomes infected though there is some chance for scarring.

Update: My dad says he'd consider letting me get my ears pierced around Christmas and my nose when I turn 18.

I could agree to this...

See if you can get a tattoo out of this deal before you make the final decision.

my mom's nose is pierced. tiny diamond stud.
I don't believe its ever caused any trouble in job interviews...
of course hers was for traditional reasons =P

tons of my friends have all sorts of piercings. although they aren't the college-bound type of people...
yeah, it hurts a tiny bit, but then it's over. very little to no bleeding. easy to take care of- just keep it clean.
As for holes not filling in, they do. If you decide you hate it you can take it out and in a month it'll look like a tiny freckle, and in a year you won't even be able to tell.

my sister got her ears pierced and it keeps getting infected. its very tedious to take care of it.

I don't know why I had a sudden, burning desire to ask this, and I'm sorry if it takes away from the OP's question, but does anyone here have a nipple piercing? For some reason I can't imagine anyone on CC having one.

Alex

Okay, I really don't think it'll affect your chances in a college interview...

haha even if my parents let me pierce my nose, i wouldn't pierce my nose

How do you think a piercing on a guy would influence how others perceive him? I REALLY want to get the top of my ear pierced after I graduate from high school, but my mom thinks all my college professors are going to think I'm some sort of juvenile delinquent. I'll just have to prove them wrong with my smarts, of course, but what will the first impression be? :O

You think you're so cool by being different but you're really not.

If you do decide to pierce it, do NOT do it yourself.

I don't think it is necessary to get your ears pierced first. If you don't want your ears pierced, don't pierce them. Just be sure that you follow the care instructions for your nose.

If you let it close up, it will. My teacher used to have her nose pierced, and now the skin there is a slightly darker color than the rest of her skin.

Piercings are not about being different. It's just another form of expression that can be chosen by someone.

I doubt a lot of people get piercings because they want to be "different." Seeing as how a lot of people get piercings, it is certainly not anything new. It's a personal choice of what someone wants to do with their body.

I heard that the cartilage closes up on the nose. It did for my friend. And they're really small, so I doubt anyone would really notice if it didn't. But you probably shouldn't do it yourself, due to infection and the nose being a "dangerous area to get pierced," as my mom says.

but it's a personal choice of what you decide to do, and good luck! I'm sure it will turn out great. : D

Liist=Flaming Homo

lol
