Simply because Pink Floyd has the most intense, amazing music in the history of music.

Stereotypical answer, I know, but I love Comfortably Numb. Astronomy Domine and Have a Cigar are also great stuff.

On the other hand, I Don't Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats is a great, great, great song. Seriously. Best of You by the Foo Fighters is equally good.

Yeah, those are the bands/songs I'm into right now (though, in my defense, I've loved Pink Floyd for two years).

^You mean the main character of The Wall?
^^Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall are their most well known albums. But honestly, they’ve had some really great albums besides that, especially with Syd Barrett’s stuff (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a great example).

On the other hand, I’d say Led Zep is far better than Pink Floyd (and just about any other band out there, save maybe Dream Theater) in terms of technical skill and precision.

^ I know, maybe not the most technically amazing song or most musically interesting song but my God it is beautiful… As for Dream Theater, they are more technical than Led Zeppelin but they should really just stick to instrumentals… (LaBrie’s voice annoys me to no end)

^I haven’t really listened to too much Led Zep - the main song I like is Stairway to Heaven. Dream Theater’s vocals just annoy me though.

Oh, one instrumental part I really like: No Surprises by Radiohead. The first 25 seconds are amazing (though the rest, I’ll admit, is annoying).

As for Floyd’s technicality, check out one of their instrumental songs (Time is one off the top of my head).

Uh oh. You did not just start a music thread on HSL.

Regarding Dream Theater: yeah, the vocals are weak - mostly because the vocalist, Labrie, had a major food poisoning incident in the mid-90s that ruptured his vocal cords. If you listen to their earlier albums, namely Images and Words and Awake, I think you’ll find some serious admiration, or at least some respect, for their vocals.

Pink Floyd’s best album, I’ve concluded through several listens of most of their work, is Animals. It simply consistently brings some of the best prog-rock ever made.

I know about LaBrie’s food poisoning mostor… I always though he was the weak link in the band even in the Awake days (though he was AMAZING in Space-Dye Vest)

Green Day’s new album (as in their old album - 21st Century Breakdown, which I just started listening to today) is pretty good. Know Your Enemy and 21st Century Breakdown are good songs. I’ve noticed that with American Idiot and this album, Green Day’s been getting a lot more political as of late.

Basket Case is still my all-time favorite by theirs though.

That’s a shame; I love long songs and wish Pink Floyd released longer songs. A lot of other music I listen to outside of Pink Floyd is 10-20 minutes long.

Though Animals is a great album, it is not as good as Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here.

^^I’m a fan of the 7-9 minute song length. If it’s 10+ minutes, the song better have a freakin’ awesome instrumental or great vocals.

I try and avoid skipping parts because generally, all music has finer intricacies which people tend to miss by going straight to “the good parts”.

^I know! Their first album (Piper at the Gates of Dawn) has some solid stuff in it. Astronomy Domine, for one, but also stuff like Interstellar Overdrive. Generally, almost all of Barrett’s songs are awesome.

Dark Side of the Moon is a great album. Pink Floyd + Prog Rock are not my favorites though. My favorite genres definitely lean towards Ska, Punk, Folk-Punk, Indie Folk, Indie Rock, etc…
