Pinned threads in Music Major forum

Hi everyone, I have a two part question for people.

Part one: I was thinking of asking a moderator to come and unpin two threads in Music Major: “Acceptance Thread for Undergrad Class of ‘23 & Grad Class of '21” and “2020 PRE-SCREEN THREAD”. Maybe we could start a new acceptance thread for undergrad '25 and grad '23 and a new 2021 pre-screen thread?

Part two: If I ask this of a moderator, I anticipate that person might turn around and ask me about the other pinned threads. They have an FAQ on this suggesting that it is optimal to have only one thread pinned per forum. Though it can be a little overwhelming upon arrival, I think a lot of the information we have pinned is valuable. What would people think of making a single pinned “Read Me” thread with our forum rules and then linking the other currently pinned threads off of that?

What are people’s opinions?

I have always been of the opinion that the people who are actively doing college searches should be the ones making the decisions. Information changes over the years so it keeps it fresh. The music forum has morphed and changed every few years. It really reflects the people using it. And maybe this year it will also reflect the times. I have enjoyed every year. So if you want to do some updating, after more people chime in, go for it.

I did notice one poster put a prescreening result in the old 2020 thread. So it may be a good idea to update those. This year is slow but if it helps just a few people that is still good. Thanks for taking the initiative.

@stringbird so nice of you to do these.

A few years ago Peabody withdrew David Lane’s Double Degree Dilemma essay because Lane had retired. I contacted David and he revised it and allowed me to post it. I asked the moderators to pin it and refer to it a lot. People seem to find it helpful but probably not often enough to keep it on the first page. Not sure. I hope it stays but defer to others who are actively dealing with applications, auditions and decisions.

I think the Double Degree Dilemma essay is super helpful. I would rather have it as post #1 of a new READ ME thread. (The stuff that’s in the READ ME thread, which is dated at this point, is also mostly off-topic.)

Where is the Read Me thread?

If I am the only one referring folks to the essay, I can always send them a link. But it has been handy to tell them it is close to the top of the forum

This is one of the ten threads pinned to the top when I enter this forum: SOME NOTES ABOUT POSTING IN THIS FORUM. PLEASE READ

That thread feels like an “unpin” to me. I feel like we need pre-screen and acceptance for current year, the Introduce Yourself thread, and a read me thread that starts with the double dilemma essay and that maybe provides links to the other currently pinned threads.
