Pipe Organ in Thompson Chapel

Are students permitted to take lessons on the pipe organ in the chapel? My son has been playing the piano for about 10 years now. He took a pipe organ course offered by a local arts alliance and loved it! He doesn't want to major in music, but he still would like to participate if he went there, and it seems like their music department is top-notch. Thanks for any input or information.

I would strongly recommend that your son contact the music department and ask this question personally. My daughter, who starts at Williams in two weeks (!) met with members of the music department on two separate visits prior to applying, and took a trial music lesson. The faculty was extremely supportive. One of the (many) advantages of Williams is that students do not have to major in music to take advantage of the many stellar musical opportunities available there.

Hi Kidstart,

Congrats to your daughter! What instrument does she play? We were able to receive confirmation that the pipe organ lesson thing is a go! My son will definitely contact them before any visits.

My daughter plays flute but is primarily a singer – she took a trial voice lesson and will be participating in one or more of the choral groups. Good luck to your son!

It’s a beautiful organ, by the way. Sounds really cool with the Thompson acoustics. I would be pleased to hear it played more often on campus!
