Pitt for social science major/arts

Hi, My S19 is curious about Pitt. I’ve read amazing things about the school on CC in terms of the engineering and science departments, but could it be a fit for someone who is interested in studying psychology or sociology, and whose interests are music and film? I guess I’m asking if the environment is very pre-professional and similar to a school like Northeastern (we’re from New England), or is more eclectic. Thanks.

More like UNH or uconn

Political Science and English major here–don’t let the STEM reputation of Pitt scare you! I know a lot of pre-med kids and engineers, but theres also a large hoard of humanities based studies, as well as research opportunities. Our Philosophy department in particular is ranked number one in the world, and there’s so many organizations on campus that compliment a humanities based education. There are pre-professional programs on campus (I’m in a pre-law fraternity) but they in no way dominate the atmosphere. Hope this helps!
