Pitt GAP vs. CWRU Dental PPSP

Hello everyone! Now that all of my decisions have come in, I have narrowed down my choices to the two above programs. I am so conflicted and would love some outside voices. They are both the same costs for me by the way.

Case: I felt that the campus and vibes matched with me better than at Pitt. I also like that it is a different city and that I won’t know anyone there. Overall academically they’re better. The one downside is that I will have to take the DAT.

Pitt: I am in the Honors College but don’t know how that stacks up against Case. People have told me that Pitt’s dental school is better but there are no definitive rankings out there. Aside from the requirements, I don’t know that much about the program in terms of retention and success. I won’t have to take the DAT which is a big plus. Also staying in PGH for another 8 years seems like a lot.

Hello-

My DC has been accepted to the U PITT GAP (med) program…and we are from OOS and excited…so would say take PITT…but unsure how your choices work for dental school.

Is there a high GPA metric to meet at PITT? But I am sure most students in these programs will not have issues w a GPA requirement…and the no DAT requirement takes a lot of pressure off of you.

I would say…go PITT.

Is there a reason why you couldn’t go to Case for your pre-dental? And then to Pitt for dental school?

I thought you had to take the DAT for Pitt too?

Are you sure the costs are the same at both for all 8 years?

How much is pre-dental at Case per year? Do you have a scholarship? What GPA do you need to maintain for that?
Do you have need based aid at Case that could change in future years (because parent income changes)?

Do you have a scholarship at Pitt? Do you qualify for a state grant?

How much is dental school tuition and fees (and insurance if required) at Case versus Pitt?

How about apartment rent off campus if you want to live off campus in the future?

Could you live at home and save money if you went to Pitt dental school?

Will your parents pay all costs or do you have to borrow for either school?

According to this the estimated yearly budget for Case Western dental school is $107,012 (based on 2016/17 rates) and $86,934 for Pitt.

That includes tuition, misc fees, living allowance of around $20,000, insurance and other items.

So that would be at least $20,000 a year difference, so $80,000 total.

So make sure you look at the costs for every one of these 8 years.

OP. Have you made a decision yet? My D was also accepted into GAP dental at Pitt and I am concerned about the required gpas of 3.7/3.5.
