alright.. after reading peoples' responses i decided to get the $1550 plan that has like 950 dining dollars. I'll probably get a lot of milk and cereal :P. No better breakfast than that.

Jimmy,
If you are accepted to the Forbes housing in freshman year, can you participate in a learning community (not LLC) as well? Thanks for any input.

Yes. Anyone can participate in a curricular learning community as long as you register for it.

replying to nikkigirl, if Jimmy doesn't mind.

I was always told by my family that it is ok to get a B in a college course and, considering the work you do in some of them, a B is pretty respectable. It can be alot of work to get an A/A-, especially in say...Biology or Organic Chemistry.

No worries, Tickostar. This is everyone's forum.

Thanks Jimmy!

I Have 2 questionns.... Can any1 living in any residence hall eat at sutherland or is it exclusvely to sutherland people? Also how are gym classes at Pitt are they whack or is it worth taking?

Please don't write like that. You're not going to State Penn or WVU.

Anyone can eat at Sutherland. I never really did because it wasn't that good, but they're completely redoing it for next year so we'll see.

I took a karate class last year and really enjoyed it. Just about everyone I know who's taken a Phys Ed class has liked it.

would you happen to know anything about pitt's acapella groups?

Would you know how strong the computer science department is?

bluesteel90,
Pitt has a few acapella groups which hold auditions the first few weeks of school. There are usually only a few spots to fill in each group and many people trying out for those spots. My D tried out last year and didn't make it, but a friend of hers made it in. You can go to University of Pittsburgh and do a search under student organizations and you will find 5 different choral groups that you can audition for. Sounds of Pleasure and Pitt Pendulums are the 2 acapella groups that most people know about. I think I googled them, too and it will take you to their website so you can learn more about them. Hope this helps.

dadinator, although I personally don't know anyone in computer science department, I know it has a good reputation. They recently did some renovations on the IS building; it's pretty cool inside. Plus, they work closely with CMU, which has arguably the best CS program in the country.

Do you know anything about the spirit groups/athletics at the university. What are the cheerleaders/dance team members presence like on campus? Do they do a lot for the university? Perform at games? I was thinking about getting involved :)

They perform at all home football and basketball games, as well as some other events. They're pretty good, I remember reading an article aboutt them placing high in a national competition.

Do you know, if one is on the waitlist for housing (as a transfer student), what the likelihood of on campus housing is? I was told the list was extensive but people drop out of on campus housing throughout the summer (although more the latter part of the summer). What do you think is my best options...should i start looking for off campus housing, or realize that the likelihood of getting on campus housing is good? Any suggestions? Thanks!

It depends where you are on the waitlist. You can contact Panther Central to find that out. I would definitely start looking off-campus though, just so you have options.

Panther Central people have told me that people requesting housing before July/August have a pretty good chance of getting something... no promises are made though. If you find an off-campus apartment, you will have to put a deposit on it and sign a lease. Maybe you should speak to somebody at Panther Central to see where you stand.

North Oakland usually has nicer apartments than South Oakland, imo. Cleaner, quieter, less crime. Dorms are more expensive, but apartments are usually unfurnished so you have to consider that cost.

How safe is college campus? Especially for somebody who lived all her life in suburbs.

jb12, I also lived in a very rural area for all of my life. I have never felt unsafe at school; Pittsburgh is a very safe city for its size. As long as you don't do anything stupid-- like walk down a dark street alone at 3AM-- you'll be fine.

Hi - Is it true that Pitt puts together bus trips to Target/Walmart etc during the 1st week so that room mates can get stuff for their rooms together?
