oh, beans. you’re right, the 1440 was for the Old SAT, my bad.
in that case I would just go full-tuition at UAH.

Reply #17 lists a number of large automatic merit scholarship schools (including UAH), but it appears that the OP is not interested in them.
Also if your goal is med school, maybe the EAP program would be of interest to you:

Also UA Birmingham has a med school and offers generous undergraduate scholarships.

I really think the Michigan schools could provide a comparable educational experience for much less money. <<

agreed. i am perplexed that she bypassed Michigan and Michigan State to apply to NYU and Pitt. not to mention other in-state schools. makes no sense.
if she really “valued education over money” she would have shot for Michigan which would have provided the best education for the best value. oh well.

I thought your list was very helpful. I know what her “rules” are for asking our advice but if someone asks me, “hey, should I drink a cup of spoiled milk, a pint of it, or a quart,” I’m going to say, “they are all bad options. dump it out and get a fresh gallon from the store.”
if pressed i will say Alabama b/c it will be the least catastrophic choice financially.
As to the “best” fit, I would rank in this order NYU → Bama → Pitt, as suspect you may have more fun time at Bama and won’t regret turning down the 20K (your first post)
You don’t have to take all the financial advice and keep the colleges as you want, what many are suggesting you to add one or two financial safety, what do you have to lose to add one or two colleges ? What many of us have seen is when May 1 comes, kids are asking where do they find the money to pay for colleges and we do not want to see it from you. I think not long ago, someone asked advice on how to pay for a second semester of college.
You said your mom made 70K, you know that she does not bring home the 70K, right? as she has to pay taxes etc. I think NYU costs around 70K, therefore you mom will have to work 5 to 6 years to pay for your NYU education, then some more years for medical school…The cost of attending NYU is easily enough to buy a house.
Do yourself a favor, apply to one or two more financial safety and a solid school. If you can still go to Bama or Pitt in May, right, if not, you still have a solid alternative.
In any case $150K is full pay at Michigan in-state.
I never dismissed Michigan, I applied early action and should hear back soon, just not counting on it
great. But if you cannot count on acceptance, then it is not a safety. Do you have any other in-state option? Michigan State ? It is about choices… you want to be in a position to be able to make those choices…You do not want to find out on May 1 that you can’t commit to the school because of any financial reasons and then stuck at a college you hate.
Sometimes it is difficult for a stranger to decide fit for you. I suspect you may like Bama. My DD16’s friend loves Bama, but she is a party girl. Have you planned to visit? Keep in mind, you will be looking at around 43K x 4 = 172,000 for Pitt. It does not even include medical school.
