As far as I know they have to do certain placement tests depending on school. Those can be done from May on until about a week before Pittstart, I think they are supposed to be done a few days before Pittstart at the latest.
This page has some info about Pittstart https://www.pittstart.pitt.edu/freshmen_what.aspx
After they pick the Pittstart dates I would book hotel asap. Don’t forget to ask if they have a Pitt discount.
@Scholarme, As mommdc said, you will complete some of the tests before you go to PittStart. Have you registered for PittStart already? Go to pittstart.pitt.edu to see the placement exam requirements that apply to you (it depends on what school you are entering) and information about where/when you should take each test.
She got the PittStart link - thinking of doing the 3rd week of july date. She said that the evenrs on one day are “optional”?
She’s been focused on AP tests so I didn’t get much details out of her. I just need to know how many hotel nights to book, basically.
@Scholarme, as mommdc said, the first day of PittStart is optional for students in Business, Engineering, and Nursing. All Dietrich School students must attend both days. Agendas and a listing of hotels (some with PittStart discounts) are on the PittStart site.
if I’m attending PittStart on June 18/19, when is the latest I can complete the math placement exam? As mentioned above, we’re all kind of focusing on AP exams at this point.
You will be fine, I think it’s a week before, but AP exams should be done soon, so if you get it done by beginning of June it will be in plenty of time. You are in A&S, right? So see which placement test you need to do.
After you schedule your Pittstart dates you should get a letter telling you all the things you need to do. I think there is an online orientation also to do and making a list of possible courses to take to the advising appointment with you https://www.pittstart.pitt.edu/freshmen_exam_as.aspx
Yes, I am in A&S. I think the only one that I need to take is math since I had three years of spanish in high school and will be exempt from taking a language at Pitt. I don’t know which math course would be suitable since I took AP Calc 1 in high school and had an A average but don’t think I passed the AP exam with a 4 or 5 to get credit.
