Pitzer and Pomona HELP PLEASE!!

Do you think I'm a likely candidate for Pitzer or Pomona? I think I have a better chance at Pitzer, but I'm not sure how likely either is.

ACT: 33 (10 on writing)
Math SAT II: 730
GPA: 4.76/5 (all honors and AP classes - 4 credits of english, math, art, french, and history and 5 of science)
AP test: 5 on English Lang and Comp

I'm a 4-year varsity track/cross-country runner and captain of my cross-country team. I did a summer trip with the National Outdoor Leadership School and volunteered for 35 days with the Student Conservation Association. I volunteer as a coach on a children's track team. I did Model UN for two years. I'm also submitting an art portfolio and have taken 4 classes at University of the Arts and glassblowing studios.

I didn't really think about which activities to do for college and just did what I was interested in and worry that my extracurriculars won't set me apart from other applicants.

I'm from PA, so that may give me an advantage and I'm not applying for financial aid (Pitzer isn't need blind).

I also spoke with the cross country coach for Pitzer/Pomona and got along with him really well. Not sure he is able to put in a good word for students.

I visited campus and did the tour/info session for both and did an overnight at Pitzer. Also not sure if either school takes demonstrated interest into consideration.

Thanks - any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

I think you have a chance at Pomona, but it’s a reach for almost everyone. My son got into Pitzer with significantly lower stats, but they are quirky about admissions, and so there’s no way to guarantee anything. You are at a major advantage if you can pay. I think that Pitzer, especially, respects demonstrated interest. I like your chances at Pitzer, but they are tiny and quirky, so their decisions can be bewildering. I don’t think they can be called a match, much less a safe, for anyone, on that account. I think Pomona is a reasonable reach for you. I loved the Claremont Consortium. My son would have loved to attend Pitzer, but the price-tag was too high when he had some other attractive options.

Thanks so much, this was very helpful! Do you know if doing early decision round 2 boosts my chances of getting in?

I liked Pitzer but found it very small. Indeed, put together the Claremont colleges are small. I then visited Hampshire. What I like about it is the Five College Consortium. You have access to some of the best LA colleges in the country, as well as UMass. More than 120,000 students. I’m told the financial aid is also better than Pitzer. For me, I like small colleges but not tiny ones.
