Chance me for Pomona?

Hey everyone,

I'm about to start my junior year of high school and so far I've fallen in love with the Claremont Colleges, but most of all Pomona. I really think I could see myself here but I'm really worried about my stats.

GPA ~3.7 I know it's really low, but I did take the most rigorous course load that my school offers sophomores and I'll be doing the same for junior year. I'm pretty sure I can bring it up junior year (maybe about 3.9), but will this seriously hurt my chances?

I haven't written the ACT/SAT yet, but I planning to in April. Currently aiming for 29+?

ECs:
-Peer tutor (English, Spanish, Math)
- xcountry
- Track (I went to "state" for 3 events, one individual two relays in 10th grade and my times match up pretty well with the other women running for Pomona)
- Published poetry
- Volunteer at local hospital
- Participate in Pride at my school, nothing major though :p
- I board so I help out in my dorm planning activities, motivating the girls during interdorm competitions, etc. Of all my ECs I'm most passionate about this one next to track and I'm going to run for head of my dorm.
- Outdoor leadership

Bleeh, when I look at it, I feel so lacking.... Soo what do you guys think my chances are? If not Pomona or the Claremont Colleges, what would be some good options? I'll be applying for financial aid and oh yeah, if it's relevant at all, I'm an URM and from an underrepresented state too. Thanks!

29 is probably not gonna cut it for Pomona. Try Pitzer though! I’m gonna apply to both, though I doubt that I’ll get into Pomona. Unless you’re a girl… then Scripps!

Stats aren’t great but URM will help a lot and your state residency will help slightly. Focus on scoring a 32+ on your ACT and make your gpa as high as you can and you’ll have as good a shot as anyone really

Alright, will do. Thanks a bunch (:
