Place to get published?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this kind of thing, so any mod, feel free to move this thread if necessary.

Anyway, I love to write. I've won a couple of creative writing contests in the county, I'm a writing fellow (had to have 3 pieces submitted for publication) with a local nonprofit that funds writing for teenagers, I'm going to the State level in a public speaking contest after winning District and Area (here's hoping I place at States!), I got a 5 on AP English exam sophomore year with no studying (they basically threw me into the auditorium because a bunch of people didn't show up to take their tests), blah, blah, blah.

I'm trying to do something meaningful with my writing that will also look good for college. I mean, it's all well and good to have a moleskine full of ideas, but they're not really helping me if no one reads them.

The problem is, most of my stories are about 1000 words or less; they're flash fiction, I suppose. I also have a set of about 20 unrelated poems, but I don't know whether it's easier to get short fiction or poetry published. I've been browsing places like Duotrope's Digest, and I'm probably going to submit a short story to Cicada, but does any of the smart people here have a similar love for writing and know a magazine that publishes teenagers' work?

IDK, but Teen Ink Magazine?
[Teen Ink](http://www.teenink.com)

I’ve been published in a few literary magazines, so I’m happy to chime in.

Duotrope’s is a great resource. There are tens if not hundreds of magazines (online and print) that accept flash fiction listed on that site. Keep browsing there, find a bunch of magazines that appeal to you, and just keep submitting material.

As for places that publish teens - every single magazine will publish a teen so long as the content meets its standards. Don’t shy away from throwing submissions at magazines just because they aren’t specifically geared toward young adult writers.

That said, here is a listing of places that are geared toward young adult writers:

[Young Authors Guide :: NewPages.com](Young Writers Guide to Publications - NewPages.com)

Hope that helps, and best of luck!

Thanks percyshelley!

I shall start licking stamps/submitting online and hope for the best.

I know this is a month old, but, either way, thank you for starting this thread. Would either of you be able to tell me which lit mags you’ve been published in – as in, are they big/small, local/national, etc? :)
