Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to be placed into honors if you send exceptional 1st semester senior grades. I just went on the “Chat With Tulane Admission Counselors” and I was told that it is not possible. However, Honors could possibly be a make or break for me and I thought I saw something on here about someone being placed into it after initially accepted. Just confirming if this is possible/not possible.
Thanks!
My son got a letter welcoming him to the Honors program this summer after his Final grades and transcript from the college courses he was taking were submitted. Note that he had 4.0 in all the college classes.
@dolphnlvr6 that’s odd that the counselors would tell me that it isn’t possible. Weird :/. I’ll probably just email my regional counselor to see what’s up.
He didn’t get any additional merit money, just the letter.
Why would being in the honors program make or break you? If you do well your freshman year at Tulane you can also be invited into the Honors program
There are several schools closer to home that cost less that Tulane and I have been invited to the honors program. I shouldn’t have said it was a make or break but it is a considerable factor in my decision.

I rather agree you shouldn’t put much weight on getting into the Honors Program at Tulane. You can still take advantage of virtually all things that are offered to the Honors Program students, such as taking honors section classes, living in the honors dorm, and applying for the Tulane Scholars Program. The biggest thing you would miss out on, I think, is early registration.
But, if you had a great first semester and think it might put you over the line for getting into the Honors Program, you have absolutely nothing to lose by sending your new transcript and an accompanying note to the Honors Program office. All they can say is no, and you would be no worse off than you are now. You aren’t asking for more money, just consideration for the program based on what I have to assume was a very strong semester. You might have been close the first time since you got the Distinguished Scholar Award. That is an indication to me that you “just missed” getting in. I guess it depends on where you fell in the range of that award.
Anyway, like I said I don’t think it can hurt to write to Dr. Luongo with your transcripts and express your interest. But I repeat, if Tulane is a strong contender for you, I really wouldn’t use this in your decision criteria, either way they decide. Your academic experience would be virtually identical, and you could then earn your way in by simply getting a 3.6 your first year, or even first semester if you do especially well. At Tulane, like at most schools (and most things in life, perhaps) you often just have to be the one to take the initiative and ask.
