while taking placement exams i accidentally clicked Exit , i thought i would be able complete later :/! now my answers are submitted by the system , what can I do ? how important is that exam ?

I was told they are just a suggestion for what classes you should take. But that you get to decide on what classes to take regardless of scores.

SATNOOB ~ you should call and check on this. You should have been able to go back and finish testing. From the FTCAP site: If you have any questions or concerns about this, contact the FTCAP office at 814-865-2578 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Eastern Time).

Dylan K ~ That is NOT how it worked last year at my son’s FTCAP day! His scores placed him into Math 140 and Chem 110 which is where he wanted to be but there were kids who had to schedule lower classes than they wanted to take. There are definitly advisors who will not let you schedule classes if you didn’t have the required test scores. While you can change your schedule after FTCAP I have yet to see anyone confirm that you can schedule a class where you do not meet the prerequisite FTCAP score without an advisor overriding the system.

Chem 110 lists this: “Prerequisite: satisfactory performance on the Chemistry and Math FTCAP tests-- i.e., placement beyond the level of CHEM 101 and MATH 022; or CHEM 101, and MATH 022 or MATH 041”

Math 140 lists this: “Prerequisite: MATH 022, MATH 026; or MATH 040 or MATH 041 or satisfactory performance on the mathematics FTCAP examination”

My son changed his Econ class after FTCAP when he got the AP credit but he met the prerequisite for the upperlevel class.

I’ve never heard of an advisor overriding a change if there was a tenable reason for it.

Last year my son registered for Math 140 even though it was recommended after FTCAP testing that he take a lower math. I agree with 1moremom - it is my understanding that these are recommendations but not hard requirements. I’m sure this can be confirmed by calling the FTCAP office. Perhaps there are some situations where they are not flexible but if so I’m not aware of them…

I thought they were more along the lines of suggestions too. I saw the rubric for the writing placement that uses SAT writing scores and its worded like they’re suggestions. For the writing specifically it also helps you choose based on your grades in high school and how you personally feel about your writing, so I would have to assume its the same for math. I’d link the rubric but I have no clue where it is.
