Placement Exams

My apologizes if there is a thread on this subject.

I just took the math placement exam for the college I am going to attend in the fall, sadly, I found it quite challenging (I haven't really had any real form of math intake in school for the past 2 years, except preparing for SATs which was a year ago). Nonetheless, I'm scared. It was easy and simple but I just was out of it.

My question is: If I do poorly on the exam, how does it effect my future with classes/transferring (if I choose to)?

Does it really matter if I'm put into a less challenging math course?

Anyone? Please? :{

if you think your score would be greatly improved (and thus place you in a more appropriate class), ask your school if you can retake it. tell them you just weren't prepared because you forgot formulas and things, but you know you'd be bored in some remedial/low-end course because all the information would come flooding back as soon as you got a refresher.
i'm assuming this is true for you, of course. i know of several people whose colleges let them do this, and it mad an impact.
your placement scores won't really affect your ability to transfer (i don't know that they are sent those scores), but the level of courses you took may. if you plan to try and transfer to, say, upenn, they might be scared off by seeing you take the lowest math your college offers (like, the kind taken by the kids who didn't even do three units in high school).

just tell your advisor what math class you want to take....they'll usually let you take it....

I just got back from registering for classes and I told them that I wasn't prepared and would like to re-take it, the adviser didn't seem to disagree. I asked if I could just take the calculus course instead because I know I'll do well in the class, they said I have to take the placement to be exempt from pre-calculus.

I'm not even sure if I want to transfer or not, but no doubt in mind that pre-calculus doesnt look as good as calculus. Maybe, I should leave it at pre-calc and get a better/easier grade perhaps or try to take the exam again
