Orientation tomorrow and math placement tests

I have orientation tomorrow and I have to take the math placement test because I didn't get a 590 on the sat in it. I am a little bit worried because I took Calculus in high school and got an A and I sucked it up on the SATS..idk why...I just didn't understand the SAT stuff...I took practice placement tests and got really good on all of them...everything seemed really easy....if anyones got a good site with a good college practice placement test thats pretty similar to the ones you take at the actual college could you plz give me the link...i just idk why i did so bad..and i want to get into the math the nurses take..AT LEAST

Bumppppppp

so what can we do for you today?

neverletyougo69-At this late time and date all you can do is get a good night’s rest, eat breakfast and put on your thinking hat with a good attitude that you will do well. Your insecurities are a downer. Stop listening to the negative voices in your head and embrace life. If you don’t do well then you take the remedial math and move forward. Life goes on.

Placement tests are to make sure you can handle standard entry-level math, and don’t have to be put in a remedial class.

If you can understand calculus and apply all of the requisite algebra and trigonometry to the problems, then your placement test should be a breeze. Don’t worry about it.

same could be said for the SAT

Supposing you did terribly, what would happen? Can you still take the math course you would otherwise against their advice, or do you have to take what they place you in?

And how did you do on the AP test?

not really though.

Qwertykey, I don’t think the OP mentioned AP Calculus.

In any event, I would give the university’s placement test a much greater weight than the AP test in deciding what math class to take next. (AP calc blows chunks.) If you happen to do poorly, then probably you should take the remedial class.

There’s no shame in that. I did poorly on a physics placement test, took remedial physics, and now I’m considering taking some upper-division courses in the subject as electives.

^Do schools have non-AP Calculus? Ours didn’t…

What does a non-AP calc class entail anyway?

I don’t know. I took AP calculus. It’s probably the same thing, except maybe you take a little more time on each concept. Not all schools have AP programs, you know. Mine offered APs in only 4 classes, and it was probably the school that offered the most in my city.

To OP: I was awful at SAT math, got an A in Calculus, and placed into Honors Calc II for my freshman year of college. Don’t worry. If you’re going to do anything tonight, just look over the topics you should know for the placement test, look at your wrong answers from the practice if you can, and get a good night’s rest. It’s going to be fine. Besides, even if you place into Calc and have to retake it (and trust me, you probably won’t place lower), at least you’ll get a thorough review and be used to college math before you begin new topics.

my school had non-ap calc

My school has non-AP Calc also, as well as AP Calc.

OP-Like someone already said, relax! Hopefully you’re asleep, eat a good breakfast, don’t stress. You’ll be fine, whatever happens, happens. Good luck!

I have to take a math placement test soon. It sucks because if I had passed the Math B I wouldn’t have to worry about it, but since I didn’t, and don’t think I will tomorrow when I retake it…

Good luck.

AP Calculus was third trimester for us…and no i didn’t take it because i didn’t think id pass teh ap test…i just took Calc A and Calc B

You have to relax. I took placement test and did fine without studying at all. Placement test is designed to place students in a courses that they can handle. As long as you know your subject and get over a certain score they set for students you should be fine.

OP,
how did it go? I hope you got the placement you wanted.
