Have to make a quick trip to the university with a student. Anyone have advice about best places to stay. How about ease of getting around without a car?
We have stayed at the Hyatt Place in Hyde Park. It is a bit farther from campus than would be ideal, but is walkable. We have also stayed in the loop. If you will have any free time to explore, I’d recommend that. Unless you really need a car for some special reason, like for student move-in which involves trips to target, etc. you are better off without one.
The Hyatt in Hyde Park is ideal but if it Is not available then anywhere in the south loop is pretty convenient to Hyde Park (10 min picturesque drive down Lakeshore) on a weekend and most have a safe place to park the car though it’s pretty expensive.
Seems really nice on line. a little pricy but not that much more than others further away. They seem not to have availability for one of the days though. Got other days tho thanks!
No hotel without rain tho!
I like staying at the Hyatt Place. Plenty of restaurants and shops right outside and free shuttle to campus whenever you need and will pick you up when you call. Walkable if weather nice. A school shuttle also comes to 53rd area by hotel so its easy for student to meet you. No car necessary. A new La Quinta is opening soon near 53rd and Lakeshore that is a bit cheaper than the Hyatt Place and also supposed to run a shuttle.
Yup, Hyatt is really walkable, we had dinner around there and plenty of choices. Whatever you do, Never stay in the B&B in the Bronzeville area which was a big mistake for us. That B&B is on the University recommended list.
The Hyatt may be walkable when the weather is decent. Next time I go to Chicago I’ll chk forecast. Got to see why it’s called the windy city though. This was a good hotel suggestion. Nice!
