I’m a senior in high school now. During my summer from 10th to 11th grade I took classes and attended a program at a college. I was required to withdraw from a class because I plagiarized. I was reported as plagiarizing because I improperly cited and paraphrased ideas and concepts in my essay. This was my first and only disciplinary action in my whole academic profile. Will colleges that I apply to know I took classes at other colleges and see my records? If so, how will it effect my acceptance.
I know my wrongdoing and I was stupid. I learned to correctly cite and paraphrase, so I have never plagiarized again.
This might be a opportunity for you to explain the disciplinary action on the Common App or for your Counselor to do so.
Do NOT – under any circumstances – suppress your college record; you are required to provide ALL of your transcripts and there is a National Clearing House wherein all of that information is readily available.
You MUST answer truthfully to whatever questions they ask about disciplinary actions. Failing to do so would be adding FRAUD to your record and you would likely be expelled or have your acceptance rescinded.
I’d get a copy of the transcript and see what exactly is on it. If it just shows up as a W I don’t think it will be an issue.
Was this class for any kind of possible college credit? (Does that matter?) And both the above pots make excellent points.
