plagiarism on record (maybe not)

I was writing an research paper for astronomy and didn't put quotation marks for some quote on the paper even I put in-text quotations and cite them in reference page. The professor fail me on that 1-unit seminar. (not UC-transferable)

This is my freshman year at a community college and I'm totally unintended to do so. I am international student and still taking intro level English course. I'm really unfamiliar with the citations and was so astonished when the professor told me about the plagiarism since I put great effort to that paper... I tried to explain to him but the grade won't be changed.

Until now I still don't know if they will put this on the record. Is it possible if they don't record it? Is there any way to remove it? and if they do, will it affect my transfer to UCs? (I have a 3.7+ GPA..)

Ask the policy for your CC. Where I work, plagiarism is reported, but if it is one time, it does not go on the transcript. As an international student, you might have a bit more flexibility. However, you need to get familiar with our system especially on this topic. Do a Google search. Purdue University has a great online writing lab(OWL) that explains plagiarism quite clearly.

Try to meet with a counselor at your CC and explain and show them what happened.

Yeah I would argue this at the CC. You might not be able to change the grade but definitely should get any bad mark off of your transcript.

Did you get a failing grade for the class or for the paper? If you failed the class, do you need to re-take it?
