I'm just curious because as i was Googling i found out quite a lot of essays on the net and thought how adcoms would deal with essays that students submit and their originality.

Besides, would taking ideas and concepts from others' essays be considered as plagiarism?
I'm also curious if colleges do have specific sort of computerised programs that detect 'taking ideas and concepts' or taking 'phrases' from sample essays. or is it like' oh i think i've read it somewhere earlier' sort of thing.

I think getting ideas from other essays is called research (especially if you cite them), but taking "concepts", "phrases" or entire sections of commentary is, in fact, plagiarism.

I personally think reading an essay that inspires you can help you write one in a similar vein, but regurgitating someone else's words will strip the passion and honesty that college admissions officers so love to hear.
