Hello (currently a rising Senior),
My family and I are considering making a trip to India to see family. Going during holiday season and winter break is several thousand dollars more expensive than going in November.
Is it feasible to go during, say, Nov 9 - Nov 23 with respect to applications? I know that the early decision/action deadline for many colleges is late October or Nov 1. After this date, would I still be busy with applications, or can I work around it?
The bigger impact will be on your grades and schoolwork from missing 2 weeks. And unless one on your early schhols is a safety, RD applications still need to be completed.
It will be challenging but I don’t see why you couldn’t get all of your applications submitted by November 8th, especially if you get started August 1st. I agree though that missing two weeks of school will be a challenge.
Did you check with your school about missing classs for almost 2 weeks? At our school, it is not that easy. How will that affect your grades for 1st semester of senior year?
Regarding college apps, you could always submit earlier than the deadline as long as everything is ready.
If there is no specific reason to go in Nov, then you could try to visit during Spring semester or even better during the Summer before college.
If you’re applying to the California UCs and CSUs, or to the earlier admissions deadlines at say USC or Vanderbilt, those deadlines are on November 30 and/or December 1. Since there’s no real advantage (that I can think of) to submitting early, many people wait until the Thanksgiving week when school is off for most, to finish up applications. Just pointing this out - but no reason why you couldn’t finish earlier with enough planning and discipline.
You can of course always submit apps online from anywhere in the world.
