Hi,
I’m currently a high school senior that is ready to start auditioning fairly soon. Most of my auditions are early in the morning (between 9:00-10:30). How early should I plan to show up to those schools with registration, finding a practice room, etc. to account for?
Thanks!
The audition days really varied for us but all of the schools provided some sort of schedule or recommendation of when to arrive and the steps necessary to register, warm-up, etc. So, my recommendation is to carefully review the audition information the schools give you. Note that some of the information may be posted on their website and not necessarily sent to you personally.
Most schools provided a warm-up room before the audition but if you need more time or a practice room outside of the warm-up time, ask the school what their policy/procedures are. It varied widely from school to school. Don’t assume that one will be available.
In general, though, I think we arrived about 1-1.5 hours before the audition time, depending on parking situation, whether there were multiple buildings involved, etc.
On most audition days there are events planned before the actual “auditioning” begins, so you might want to contact the schools and find out what’s scheduled. Those meetings typically cover introductions to the school itself, faculty, you usually pick up your folder for the day which will give you the time for your theory exam, campus tour etc.
Yep, you should check with the admissions department at each school to find out what is planned out for each day!
