Planning on graduating within 4-years/UCDC/Study Abroad?

Hey everyone,

So I'm generally a great planner but unfortunately I won't be able to take any classes this summer which will delay the number of units I had planned on accumulating.

I'm sort of getting a bit scared that I won't be able to graduate in four years because I've been reading the statistics at UCSD and Berkeley and a large percentage do not graduate in four years, particularly transfers.

I was also wanting to do a study abroad but I doubt I can now that I've encountered this conundrum.

Do any of you have advice as to what I could do/plan to get the most out of my college experience?

Why are you so concerned with graduating in 4 years? Take an extra year to study abroad, or do a semester in DC. Nothing is forcing you to walk out the door in 2 years.

Isn't there a unit cap?

You can study abroad and stay within the unit cap.

I'm one of those weirdos that did this last year, and dropped by to see how people are making out this year. And I think you have an awesome question. I've wanted to study abroad since I was like, 12, and I want to do more than a summer. But I'm at UCLA, and I only want to do two years here (enough college already, seriously), and I really want to experience the campus.

So I'm doing a program that has a fall semester option. I'll be abroad for a little over six months (including a little traveling) and get 1.5 quarters of credit, but only miss one quarter here. I've had this entire year, and I will have two quarters next year. My major is very conducive to study abroad, but most allow at least two or three courses to transfer.

I don't know as much about the UCDC program, but they're always posting flyers about info meetings (study abroad has meant I haven't had time, but I'm considering the summer after I graduate...maybe...if I have any money left...).

Reply or send me a PM if you have any questions. There are pluses and minuses to EAP (UC study abroad), but for the most part, I've been pretty happy with it thus far.
