Long story short, my school ended up not offering AP Bio because not enough people signed up for it. How realistic is it for me to study the material myself? I’m worried mainly because science seems to be one of my weaker subjects (although I do have a strong interest in Biology and might want to do something medical in the future). No one in my school self-studies either, so I wouldn’t know how to go about actually taking the test when it’s not offered at school. I have a Barrons book from last year that I have barely even looked at, will that be a good enough book to study from? Also, what videos could I watch for more details on specific topics/labs?
I don’t think I’m allowed to link websites but if you google “independent study BYU AP Biology” then you can find BYU’s website. They have an online course you can take for 5 credits ($155). I didn’t take AP Biology but I happen to know at my school they use the Campbell AP Biology textbook. I heard that the curriculum is pretty central to that, but I know the newest edition of the textbook is really pricey. Everyone says that the old editions are pretty much the same, though. If you can find a used one then that would be ideal. You should also look at the crash course AP biology pdf for either a preview or review. Good luck!!
Is it possible to do dual enrollment at your local Community College? I think self studying AP Bio is not going to be successful…but perhaps an on-line version might work.
Agreed. No reason to buy the newest version.
@raffie - I’m pretty sure I could get a Campbell textbook from my school. AP Bio has been a class at my school in previous years, just not this year because not enough people signed up. So the textbooks are still at the school. And thanks for the Crash Course recommendation! I’ll definitely check it out.
@bopper - The deadline for dual enrollment in the fall was in May. The reason I didn’t do it is because I would be missing over half of my high classes to just take 1 college class.
You should definitely try an online course or preferably, would your school let you do independent study for AP Bio with a teacher?
