Planning study abroad for language proficiency. Advice on what to pick?

I'm looking over some study abroad program that my future school offers. I am pre-med but I also want to learn 2 languages, Spanish and German, but I don't know the best way to go about this. Here are some scenarios I am contemplating:

1) Do a summer semester in either just Spanish or German, just language courses. The do fall semester in actual biology. This option would only allow me to do a study abroad in one language and then I'll just have to learn as much as I can about the other on class.

OR

2) Do a summer semester in one language then a or spring semester in the other. This option would require me sacrificing a semester of biology which may or may not hinder my med school chances.

So CC'ers, any advice on which option sounds best or any other ideas? I'd really appreciate your feedback. Thanks. :)

Have you studied either before? If you’re not already at a reasonable level of competency there is little point trying to learn two in the single year. Personally id just pick the one and concentrate as much as i can on it. Don’t be disappointed if you come back not speaking it anyway, the chances are you wont unless you’ve engaged in some serious study already.

Option B will serve you better. I was going to type something like that up before even reading it.

Depending on how much is hinging on that Biology course(s), it could set you back. But if you only plan on taking the basic Biology courses and a couple extra (Micro, Genetics, etc), you may be okay. You need to plan for the years after as well when you write your plan to study abroad.

I’d suggest going to a Study Abroad adviser. They’ve seen your situation before. Trust me.
