I think Prof. Wesbrooks gives good insight into audition material and what programs might be looking for.
Try to watch both parts, regardless of whether NYU is an option.

I posted this late one night thinking it gave good info on what an audition committee might be listening for. Posting again in case it was missed by students and parents starting the process. They are longish videos, but if you watch both to the end, I think they are insightful. Thoughts?
I loved that he said that the piece doesn’t have to be age appropriate or something that you would actually play as a performer. Just connect with the piece and be truthful. Show the auditors who you are….great advice and my belief for a long time. Worrying so much about overdone song and monologues can be a waste of time and energy.
on twitter today for what it’s worth:
“Please do age-appropriate material. Your youth, vitality, energy + passion are your strongest selling points.”

I think there is a line. Yes an 18 year old shouldn’t be singing" Rose’s Turn", but if they are singing something written for an adult character that can be ok if it conveys something you connect to and want to say. In other words- if you want to sing from sound of music (which is NOT something I would recommend, but it provides an example) you don’t have to stick to “16 going on 17”, but maybe you should stay away from “climb every mountain”
Irony: I am watching a contestant sing “climb every mountain” on the miss America pageant …
The "Climb Every Mountain"Miss America contestant is an OCU MT graduate.
And she sang it really well- I just thought it was funny that I used that song as an example and then there it was on tv.
