Playing a sport will help in admissions?

I heard that if you show interest in playing for the college team, there are more reasons to pick you.
If I show that I want to continue playing tennis into college, will that make me more applicable for the school? (Since they want members for their teams)
If so, would you recommend playing women's tennis at the college level? (Or any sport)
Does it interfere with your studying?
I'm interested in pre-med.
Thanks!

Regardless of your interest in playing at the collegiate level, how good are you? What is your state or national ranking?

Simple interest on your part doesn’t matter whatsoever. It’s what you can do to add to any college’s team. But the casual nature of your questions leads me to believe that it might not be an option for you.
