Hey,

I'm desperate for any opinion...

I'm chosing between Columbia, Dartmouth and Brown...I think I want to study International Relations or Communications...

I visited all three schools, I think by now it's really between Columbia and Dartmouth because I really didnt like Brown. I like the people better at Dartmouth, and the sense of community. I feel like I'd be lost at a big university like Columbia. But at Columbia I like the city, and it seems it's better academically, and has more culture etc which i like.....so my question is from an academic standpoint and for jobs in the future etc, is the name "Columbia" really a factor in chosing? are the academics and opportunities that much better at columbia, to the point of sacrificing a school where I'd maybe be happier (although i'd probably be fine at both)? what are your opinions of both schools?

THANK YOU!! I have two days to chose, please tell me what you think or which one you would chose and why :-)

Go for Dartmouth, and not just because my ego would like to get off the waitlist at Columbia :). I don't think that there is any appreciable difference in the quality of the education at Columbia and Dartmouth, and I really can't imagine anyone who would value the name Columbia over the name Dartmouth. You should almost always go for the school where you are more comfortable, and should especially do so when the other school offers you no other benefit. Dartmouth is where you feel comfortable--go there, and don't worry for even a second about prestige--it's equal to Columbia's.

If you got that special feeling while you were at Dartmouth, go there! That gut feeling counts for more than you think. And though Columbia may be more "known" to the layman due to its many grad schools, NYC location, bigger size, etc., employers and grad school admissions committees know of Dartmouth and Columbia equally. They're both great schools and you're lucky to get to make this decision!

Hey...I've seen you around here before. It seems that you've finally eliminated some schools.
One thing i think you might be forgetting about Dartmouth is that, as much as you like the community, that's all there is. So in order to have a good experience, you really have to love the community enough in order to give up access to pretty much everything else, especially compared to Columbia.
While at Columbia you get a community, which, although less consuming, is still there, plus the opportunities of the city: culture, dining, a diverse, international feel, etc. And it's also a lot easier to get to. I know my cousing who went to Dartmouth always had trouble getting out because it's basically a full-day endeavor, and actually was unable to make it to a family emergency because of the school's isolation, whereas at Columbia, you can hop on a flight headed anywhere in the world at anytime.

Thanks..I'm seriously leaning towards dartmouth...any more opinions?
