Hi,
I've already come up with 3 essays that I had to scrap. I need to get this done within the next week and I can't seem to be able to find something good to write about. I've been told that I have to write a narrative and "show, not tell" and it has to be about something that I do and care about. The problem is that in the last 4 years, the only thing I really cared about was my academics. Before, high school all I ever got were C's and B's. I was pretty average. But then in high school I really cared about it and I got a 4.64 GPA. Would it be okay to write about that? Do you think I could make it into a story? btw- I've also been told not to make excuses in my essay like my poor academic abilities in middle school.
thanks

you can definitely write about academics, but get away from mentioning GPAs or test scores of any kind. What you might want to do is write about your passion for one specific area of academics-do you want to be a doctor? A lawyer? a businessperson? Do you love your science classes and want to be a bioengineer etc. etc. Relate that to your drive to getting good grades. Just talking about your grades will make the adcoms bored to tears. The essay is your time to show what you are passionate about, aside from grades. Even if you mainly only care about academics, find something within this that isn't already represented by numbers/letters.
