You seem to be a very strong applicant

As @seattlebulldog said, you seem like a pretty good applicant. If you had one thing lacking, it would be the number of your AP courses. 4 people from my school were admitted this year and they all took at least 6 AP’s.
Also the fact that you are out of state decreases your chances dramatically. I read somewhere that they only accept 15% OOS’s.
As a matter of fact, Chapel Hill is where I am aiming to go. I am a sophomore in high school and I am doing everything I can to make myself stand out. One last thing, have you not taken the SAT?

bump 10 char

^^^^^^RichieRich,

Your grades and class rank are truly outstanding; is your composite score a 28 or a 30? I’m thinking that for OOS, that score may be outside the range of those accepted to UNC, and they only admit 18% of the class from OOS. It really comes down to the grades, rigor rank and the scores, and the hill is simply much steeper OOS. Good luck!

The kitesurfer.

thank you very much and also it is a 30. sorry for any confusion

^^^^^^RichieRich,

I just read some information on-line in a General Alumni Associations publication on Admissions, and the latest data set they’ve put up is from 2010; I know Carolina got close to 30,000 applications this year, so 2010 data indeed may not translate to 2012 admissions, but the out-of-state median score for ACT (2010) was a 30 (which is where you are) and the middle 50% range was 28 to 33, so you’re inside the range.

Based on that, I’d say you are a competitive applicant (but again, that data is two years old now and is based on a substantial difference in the number of applications now versus 2010…). Your grades are going to be very hard to beat, however. Anytime you can get inside that middle 50% range of what they usually admit, you are competitive.

Good luck buddy.

thank you so much. that data was very, very helpful. i truly appreciate it!
