SAT 1-Taken this October.I know I'll get atleast a 2100,I cannot say for certain anything beyond that. Also, please don't tell me you cannot accurately chance without it because that would be of no help to me.The above score is the minimum I can get.(My practice tests were in the range 2100-2260.I hope this helps).

I am normally unresponsive to chance threads, however this is the truth. No one can accurately assess your chances .It is a waste of time to speculate. Aks when you have real scores.

sybbie719 - I have already told you the range of the scores I can get ie late 2100’s-early 2200’s. And I very highly doubt that it’s going to be anything different than those.

And I created a chance thread without knowing my scores because I’m so desperate to know where I stand before I apply ED. I shall of course be back with my Oct. scores but until then, I request the CC’ers to please assume my score to be in that range because that’ll be in the end of this month which is very late. Please judge on the basis of that and my class rank.

Oh and another thing I forgot to mention- SAT subj predicted test scores- 750+ (for sure) in each subject. My school courseload>>sat subj courseload and this is also after judgeing my practice tests.

Thanks everyone and please do help out with some solid info!

You cannot say that because you most likely did not take practice test under actual test conditions. THere are students that do better than their practice test and those that do not.

As far as ECs are concerned, I would focus on quality vs quantity. You are in a much better postition to be involved in a few things over a sustained period of time showing where you have grown in leadership and the specific types of projects that you have taken on vs a laundry list of activities (it will look as if you have a lack of direction)

In another thread you wrote:

Well since on of the first things a school mentions when it selects a new class in the spring is the number of applicants (and make note as to whether or not there has been an increase) and the average SAT scores (which for Dartmouth has been increasing year over year for all of the years I have been on the board), I would respectfully disagree. If you go through the ED threads, most unhooked applicants that are accepted ED round have **very high ** SAT scores.

You are an unhooked applicant,so a 2100-2200 may not make you competitive in the large pool of international applicants many who will present similar, better numbers than you. I think your main job should be differientating yourself from all of the other international students (and indian students) who will be applying to Dartmouth. What are you bringing to that table that is differnet/ Why should Dartmouth choose you over the ~ 16,000 applicants that will also present good grades, a high class rank and high SAT scores?

Sybbie - Thanks a lot for the explanation!

How do you suggest I go about doing that? My essay tries to do that, but other than that do you have any advice?

Do you have any suggestions on which EC’s I should cut out then? I’m in two minds about cutting them out as I’m getting differing opinions on that one.

No offense, but I still disagree about the huge importance of SAT scores. Never mind, each to his own! :)

As an interntational student and who will be overrepresented in the admissions process, my advice would be not to go into this process with blinders on because you don’t agree with what is being said (no dog in this fight as my kid has already graduated).

Yes, while unweighted GPA (because there is already an expectation that you are taking the most rigerous courses your school offeres) and rank are two of the most important factors in the admissions process, it is not going to help your cause to show up to the table with lower SAT scores. My advice is to look at the ED thread from last cycle. that will give you an idea as to how many student with stats similar to yours were accepted during the ED round.

Phew!!! Don’t you think it could be better if you could trim down some stuffs. It’s more of laundry list than of passions. Didn’t I mentioned earlier that you should explain the value of your awards? It’s hard to judge what’s the value of that Gold Medal without a brief explanation.
Do you think Dartmouth is gonna give you full aid despite those relatively low scores (compared to students with brutal competition from China and India).

But still, you have good chances.

Post this in “What are my chances” forum. That would be better.

I’ve mentioned the level and name of the championship Harisheena. What else do you suggest I mention?

The value of awards.

I feel the list is just tooooooo long.

I’ve tried to shorten it by omitting all school awards and less important awards. I’m quite frustrated with it’s length too.

Some more opinions would be highly welcome :)

What one means by value of award:

Answer me which case awes you? (the difference being the value of awards)

1st Case - Pixie, I have been selected for a Workshop-cum-Skill Improvement Camp for brilliant chess players with Asian Champion Grand Master Surya Shekhar Ganguly. Yuppy. It’s very very competitive and believe me I feel fabulous.

2nd Case - Pixie, I am among the top 100 players of West Bengal State to be chosen for a Workshop-cum-Skill Improvement Camp for brilliant chess players with Asian Champion Grand Master Surya Shekhar Ganguly
o Among selected few are International Master Deep Sengupta, U-14 World Champions Diptayan Ghosh and Sayantan Das, Women International Master Saheli Barua and if that wasn’t enough - Grand Masters Dibyendu Barua and Nilotpal Das and many other eminent chess players of West Bengal.
Its a one week of mentoring program for the upcoming National Championship.

This is the importance of value of awards.

Consider this nonsense (which is not true of my case):

I won a National Essay Competition and received a Gold Medal. (Insight - Organised only in two cities, four schools participated, 10 students/ school, all other schools Hindi medium except mine.)

lololllololololol :)

Ah. Okay, I get it now. I had thought of mentioning this but then my aim of making a short resume would be shot down. The schools don’t want to see a resume of more than a page or maximum 2 pages and mine is currently at 2.5 .

PS-The second one def looks better.

KISS your application:

Keep
It
Simple &
Straightforward.

If you present so much information, you are gonna doze off the Ad officer.

OR

Their is a high probability that he will simply skip the resume portion.

Your SAT needs improvement. 2300+ for Dartmouth full ride.

Thanks for you help harish :)

Right. The highly corrupt, unreliable Baba Harisheena. ;)

Now, scoot! No spamming on my chance thread!

PS-In sanskrit it’s not harisheenay. Either harishay for for a name not ending with an ‘a’ or harisheenayeyy for a name ending with an ‘a’.

PS-In sanskrit it’s not harisheenay. Either harishay for for a name not ending with an ‘a’ or harisheenayeyy for a name ending with an ‘a’.

Thank you for making me sleepy… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Now Go Away!! I don’t want any spamming on my thread!

I’d love some more opinions of other people.
