I'm working on my essays right now, and I have a unique passion that I believe will stand out and truly show who I am as a person. I plan on getting a recommendation letter from my history teacher who knows me personally beyond my work as a student. My other letter will probably come from my AP English teacher, as I got the highest mark in her class. In addition, I believe the LOR from my guidance counselor and principal will be nothing short of stellar.

Unfortunately, I do not have any significant honors/awards. I have A LOT of school awards, but no academic awards beyond school. I know this isn't an excuse, but there are very few academic extracurricular opportunities in Canada in comparison to the States.

Please chance me for:

Johns Hopkins - early decision
Cornell
NYU
UMich
UC-Berkeley
UCLA
UPenn
Northwestern
Duke

As an international applicant, the competition will be more rigorous, but I would like to know how you guys think I will fare.

Thank you for your time!

JHU ED: Match/High match
Cornell: Reach
NYU: Low match
UMI: Match (can you pay full-freight?)
Berkeley: Match (can you pay full-freight to an UC?)
UCLA: Match
UPenn: Reach
NWU: Reach
Duke: Reach

So I assume your safeties are at home…

Catria, I will not be applying for financial aid at all, which I hear is a major advantage to international applicants. Also, I will be applying EA to UMich.
There really are no safeties for international applicants. A lot of factors can be detrimental to your chances. Although from a previous thread, NYU was a safety for me… Other than that I’m left with Canadian schools

I hear JHU has a very high acceptance rate for ED. Is this also true for international applicants? Also, how high of a reach is Cornell for me - a low reach? I know that Penn, NWU, and Duke are practically reaches for everyone, but will I be a competitive applicant for them?

For Berkeley, will being an international applicant hurt my chances significantly despite the fact I will pay full?

I know Cornell is a lower reach than NWU, UPenn or Duke but it’s still a reach. As far as Berkeley is concerned, if you pay full-freight, residency status doesn’t matter.

Anybody else? Bump
