Strong recommendation letters.

Strong essay topic: I have turned my disadvantages into advantages and created opportunities for my self. Focused on my one personal family struggle in my 10th grade year and how I have evolved from that hardship and contributed to the community.

Haha. You make it seem like it's the struggle of the century. I say you're a match for Irvine. Don't even worry!

I'm really nervous b/c I don't know how well being an OOS is gonna fly by... I think it'll be a lot tougher for me

Your academic record is a match for irvine OOS (its not particularly difficult for OOS students) and your EC's are quite good. I'd say you are in.

It is definitely more difficult for OOS students. Imagine the admissions system being a tally of points. For the OOS students, the cutoff to determine who is accepted is raised. However, since you have strong ECs, a high GPA, and high SAT2s (to balance out that sat1), you are a match for UCI.

Thanks for the comments, guys! I really appreciate them...

What is a match, exactly? About 60%?

By the way, I applied undeclared.. and I plan to major in international business / communication, not science related (ie engineering)... will that give me an edge? Or make admission slightly less competitive?

anyone else?

I think you'll be fine. :)

The only disadvantage you have to in-state students is that you have to pay nearly twice the tuition.

Undeclared/undecided is the easiest major to get into since it isn't really a major. However I recommend switching out asap (while you do orientation). U/U majors are treated like **** here. They get the worst priority.

i got in and im OOS with lower SAT scores and GPA.. they want your money

err, what was your gpa?
i'm oos and i have ike a 3.4 weighted ucgpa lmao (even though it's higher than 4.0 weighted "normally")
and i got a 2120 on my sats ><

UC don't look at freshman year

My GPA (without freshman year) is a 3.5 unweighted, 4.0 UC GPA

what do you guys think?

Thanks for the responses so far!

Anymore care to chance?

i'm from out of state too, and except for the gpa and sat ii scores (my gpa's a little bit higher, but my sat ii scores are siginificantly lower), we're about the same. i got in, so i'll say that you have a very good chance (since i don't understand the whole reach, match, etc). good luck! don't stress out :)

stressed0ut, you're going to be fine for UCI. I'm not sure about scholarships and stuff but you have way higher credentials than the average admitted student. Even if you're out of state, Irvine's impressively high acceptance rate should be something to consider before getting worked up about it.

bump, bump.....

anyone else? :)
