I’m not sure how you can only be “one month” into your junior year when it’s the second week in November…? Irrespective of that, there is no way to assess your “chance” for Maryland before you have standardized test scores. Maryland is one of those schools that places a lot of weight on stats such as SATs/ACTs. On the Maryland website, the freshman profile for 2013 is reported to be as follows:

"The admitted freshman students have a strong A-/B+ or better average in their high school coursework and enrolled in the most challenging courses available to them including honors, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses.

For students admitted to the University of Maryland for the Fall 2013 semester, the middle 50% of SAT scores ranged from 1260 to 1410, and 28-32 on the ACT. As a result 25% of the admitted students scored below a 1260 on the SAT and 25% scored above a 1410."

In the meantime, work on getting A’s this year (an upward trend would be very helpful) and do a lot of practice tests for the standardized tests so you can have a strong score. Fortunately, you are thinking about these things now so no need to “freak out” - just take the bull by the horns and focus on doing what you need to do. Since you are doing well in your classes now, it sounds like you have things under control, so just keep going in that direction. Best of luck.

Maryversity is right on the money. Your GPA is very important. An upward trend is critical, your Junior year the most important grade-wise.

Please modify your extracurriculars if needed to give adequate time to your studies. Emphasize extracurriculars you love and that will help substantiate your interest and ability with math. A ton of ECs is no substitute for a strong GPA.

Take the SAT at your first opportunity. Plan to take it a second time (after studying to improve the weakest areas) to improve your score if the first one is below the top 25%.
