Leadership:

(I know I'm only a rising junior, but if I raise my GPA a bit and def. raise my SATs, do I have a chance? Also, any recommendations for any other colleges good for Middle East/Russian Studies and their languages?)

Thanks!

Looks like that GPA is weighted. Your unweighted is something like a 3.8, 3.9.

Amherst is supposed to have a good Russian Lit program.

Now that you’re a junior, you need to start aiming for leadership positions in your extracurriculars. Attending meetings and staying on the roster will not get you in to Middlebury. You seem to have a ton of things going on- pick the 4 or 5 you like best and really push yourself to get to the top of the game in those. Middlebury also prefers students who have taken some fine arts class in high school- if it’s offered, take it.

Do you need financial assistance? I ask because if you don’t then you can apply to Middlebury early decision. They fill up half of their incoming class in the early decision round and it really helps your chances of being accepted. You shouldn’t do this if you need financial aid because you need to be able to compare the packages from all of the colleges you are accepted to. Also Middlebury needs to be your first choice and you need to be willing to not find out what other choices you would have had.

@peggy: only about two or three of these have leadership positions (Spanish/Science club and the honors societies). The clubs have elections i think in the fall, but the honor societies only offer positions to rising seniors. Would only having positions in 2 affect me?

What fine arts do you suggest? I’d have to see if I could fit it into my senior year schedule…

@pea: I do need FA, but I think I read on Middlebury’s site that applying early is better because then they have more money to offer…? I don’t know. But I’m confused between early decision and EA. If I apply to Middlebury early, is that the option where I would absolutely have to pick it? I’m really confused O.o

The way I’m going, do you think I have a shot of getting in?

Those two or three would be very worthwhile if you’re dedicated to them, especially if you have a faculty member who can speak for your determination. And any fine arts would be okay- it just depends on what you like/are talented at.

I think you’re qualified to be admitted but each year Middlebury turns away many qualified applicants because they simply don’t have enough space.

Okay. Could the teacher in charge of our paper be a good faculty member? I had her this year for English, and she’s written me an amazing recommendation before.

And honestly, I’m not good at art or at singing…and all the other music classes require you to be in marching band (of which I’m student manager) or have a long history in our district’s music program AND be approved by the music staff. (I quit band after eighth grade (5 years of clarinet).)

P.S. I attended a summer Health Career Academy last summer and have been accepted into a very good (local) university’s Law and Forensic Science Workshops.

Middlebury is an early decision school, which means that if you’re accepted, you must immediately withdraw any other applications you’ve already submitted and not submit any additional applications to other schools. In other words–it’s binding. Early action schools allow you to apply to other schools after you’ve been admitted (non-binding).

Thanks!

But the way I’m going, do I have a chance at getting in?

bumpp

(P.S. can you try to chance me for Dickinson, too? It’s another of my choices. Thanks)

bump. anyone?
