Essays:
Common app about my role in my traditional Asian Family being the youngest and most westernize one.
Supplement about my experience at working in Wong's and how that motivated me learn more about ILR. Cornell because of the focus that it gives on China's labor market.

My honest opinion:

SAT is kinda low

and the ESSAY is WAYYYYY too generic…
Common app about my role in my traditional Asian Family being the youngest and most westernize one.

SAT is below 50th percentile but ACT is at the 50th %. Like most it is going to come down to your essay & “fit”.

I haven’t seen many international students in ILR come to think about it. MILR sure…

And I echo the prior comments.

I would try to get your SAT score up a bit. Is CR weighing you down? Being an international is an added hurdle.

Also, not sure how you managed the factory worker job 16 hours a day. Maybe you can tie working conditions in such factories to your interest in ILR. Just a thought.

Expand the labor market bit. Talk about certain instances where you observed conflict or inequity. Talk about what skim-the-surface readings you then did about the Chinese labor market and how that affected your career outlook.

(Great IB scores btw. I’m in ILR right now, did IB in hs as well)

Thanks everyone! You actually have no idea how much this has helped me.

I was thinking of applying with my ACT score because my I actually suck at math. I only got a 670 because I busted my butt studying. My CR is usually higher, like on the 680-720 range, but I think applying with my ACT scores might me better.

Okay I’m gonna elaborate on my commonapp essay. It is about the clash of cultures, but I guess it’s different in that most of my family members are gunho CCP (my grandfather was pretty high up in the government during the founding days) and just dealing with that aspect is hard. Just being around constant communist propaganda (not how I’m describing it). Is that a bit better? or should I totally change it.

Blergh. Being International is a hurdle? I thought it was gonna help…

I also run MUN at my school now. That gives me a much-needed leadership position.

Are you applying RD this year?

Yes I am applying RD this year.

And while I am living abroad and have never lived in the United States, I was born there and I have a passport.
