Please chance me for American University! (I can chance you if you want!)

Hi! I fell in love with American after they sent me a brochure in the mail, but my parents told me to give it up. Now, after researching it, we found out they have my intended major (Neuroscience). I want to double major if possible with the Psychology BA-MA program and Neuroscience major (so triple major?) or Neuroscience and History. Anyways…my stats:

Gender: Female
Race: Black
State: rural North Carolina. No one has applied to American in the last 8 years lol.
GPA: UW 3.6 (low!) W 4.8
APs: Will have 14 APs total (4 sophomore year, 5 junior year, and 5 senior year…I will have 6 more APs than our Valedictorian)
SAT: 1930, first time-no study, retaking. [610 M, 650 CR, 670 W] aiming for 2100

ECs:
Extracurricular: Here are just some, I realize I won’t have space on the common app for everything so these are my best:
-Summer Ventures in Math and Science 5 week, state funded (free), program for juniors and seniors (like governor’s school but for math and science only, and we complete a research project unlike gov school)
-Stem Cell Research Program (only 5 in the country) acceptance and completion
-Student Body President (previously served as Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior class president) (done a lot of local, big things for the club)
-1 of 2 students selected for Freshman Orientation “super guides” (sounds lame, but big responsibility)
-I serve as the first and only student member on the school board
-SADD Club President
-National Honor Society Vice President
-Spanish Club Vice President
-Quiz Bowl Captain
-Attended Project uplift (NC Chapel Hill, invitation only)
-6x Varsity Letter

Many awards but not going to list them all. (AP scholar and w/honor and w/distinction and most likely National AP scholar), Student of the Month, Best Engineer, Athletic Awards, science and engineering camp awards, little school awards etc).

Thanks!

You should not have any problem getting in. As to whether its neuro program is good or not, I have no idea.

I think you have a really good chance of getting in! I think American prides itself on how diverse its student body is, so it tries to be as inclusive as possible. Your stats are pretty impressive so do not doubt yourself. When I applied, I was nervous as well, but your SAT score is higher than mine (I did not even submit it, but I have a friend with a lower SAT score and was accepted.) But remember, the SAT is NOT everything. Make sure your essays are great and have as many eyes on it as possible!

As for neuroscience, American isn’t particularly known for its neuroscience program, but I have absolutely no doubt that you will get a quality, top-notch education there. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to ask! I’ll be at American in the fall studying Political Science, but I’ll help as much as I can! :)

Awesome! Thanks so much! Most schools don’t even have neuroscience so when I found one that 1) was in my dream city, 2) was a decent match/low reach, and 3) was at a school with an awesome history/political science school, I jumped at the chance!

Congrats on your acceptance! I’ll probably ask you questions in the future!
