(I don't know if this counts, but I got the Math, Science, History and Language awards in 8th grade for my middle school haha)

Since I've been drawing and painting for a very long time, I have a lot of pride in my portfolio... I don't have any CAD drawings, I don't know if that will be a problem... But I do have lots of paintings, drawings and sketches demonstrating skill and a love for art and architecture.

are you applying ED for architecture?? so am i.

everything looks good, but you can’t really judge anyones chances for architecture without seeing their portfolio. at the info session for AAP, the admissions officer said that admissions to architecture is very subjective.

wait, what is ED??

yeah i know :confused: i’m soo anxious! haha
the portfolio is basically what decides if you get in or not, right?
i’m only worried that i don’t have any cad stuff. everything is just drawings and paintings.
i could have cad stuff if i wanted, but my dad (who is an architect) says that the art and skill is more important than drafting…

ED = early decision

yeah i think so…

think of the portfolio as revealing who you are. Cornell Architecture wants very outstanding and interesting people-a diversity of different strengths and backgrounds to complement studio culture. And with an admission rate of 9%, that’s really going to matter.

Essentially, what do YOU have to bring to the class? What is your position as a person going into architecture? What is your unique background?

In my class, there are people who are chefs, dancers, people from all over the world who can bring in different unique point of views.

and no CAD drawings please…they are not looking for computer skill sets. While drawing and painting is great, to think of a portfolio as simply revealing your skill sets is missing the point of why they require a portfolio. They are looking for conceptual thinkers, people with a lot of creative ability. Drawing and painting is only one way to reveal that (though i highly recommend free hand sketches).

good luck
