International applicant, Asian male, Experience of living in two continents(Europe + Asia)
Prospective major - Engineering/Computer Science/Physics
New SAT - 1570
SAT II Physics - 800
SAT II Math 2 - 800
Going to do SAT Chem and SAT French in December.
I am taking the most rigorous courses available at my high school.
My school doesn’t calculate GPA but its approximately 4.75 on a 5 point scale.
Top 1% of my school.
My common app essay is ok - 7.5/10. Supplements talk about extracurriculars (cuz that’s what brown asks for)
Extracurriculars:
one week work experience in nuclear fusion - mechanical engineering
UCI online courses in cloud computing - computer engineering/science
Stanford University online course in special relativity - physics
math tutoring (2 years ago - not much time devoted)
international MUN delegate
I teach a language to my brother
Involvement in school community - event organization, yearbook
I think I have pretty good recommendations - asked one math teacher, one science teacher, and one humanities teacher + counselor (counselor rec is excellent).
I speak 3 languages fluently - mother tongue, English, and French
in fact, I am applying to some Asian universities which need math, physics, and chemistry subject tests. As I was going to do Chemistry I thought I would to do French too as I already speak French.
So Brown won’t even look at my other 2 subject tests? If that’s the case I won’t wait for my Chem and French. Where did you find that information?
Sending them certainly won’t hurt, but just know that they probably won’t use them. Plus, you already have two 800 in the subjects that are most relevant to your intended concentrations so I wouldn’t worry about it for Brown at least.
You have a shot, and are in for the lottery. International applicant, Asian male, Regular decision . all not working to your favor. Even worse if you need financial aid.
While other applicants will probably have better ECs, your stats are top notch. But Brown RD is very tough to get into, especially as an international. Make sure your essays are outstanding
Princeton University (Applied EA)
The Ivy League universities (except Dartmouth) - Brown, Harvard, UPenn, Cornell, Yale, and Columbia
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Johns Hopkins University
Duke University
Stanford
Northwestern
Rice (Is Texas a good place for international students? -> what do you think about racism over there, etc?)
NYU
This is my college list. I know there are no safeties or matches because I can return to my home country as a safety plan.
I wanted to ask if I can consider any of these low reaches (remember that I am applying for financial aid)?
Also, can I consider NYU a match(safety?) given the 32% acceptance rate and their special focus on international students?
