Course Load: Full IB

SAT: 1900 (600CR/630M/670W)
***Please don't judge me on this, I didn't study at all this first time... But I'm studying like crazy right now and I'm already looking at 2100-ish. I WILL have a 2250+ by next fall! I'm determined.

AP: Psychology (4) (<- Should I send this...?)

-I'll also be competing in this year's science fair and I think I'll do pretty well (very few, if any, students will have projects on cancer on the county level)

-VERY involved in church and youth group - I work in the sound booth on a weekly basis, I dance, and I do a lot of volunteering

Clubs/Academic Teams: All the usual stuff (Beta, NHS, HOSA etc.), but here are some offices...
-Science Bowl - Started the team, Head Captain
-Spanish Honor Society - SGA rep.
-National Honor Society - Treasurer
-Local student advisory board - Vice President
(Also, pretty good chances of being president of Spanish and NHS next year)

*Founder of the IB mentoring program at my school - It's been a huge success, about 200 students so far and it's growing. Hoping to expand it school-wide next year!

I haven't won any huge awards...just local stuff on the school level.

So, assuming that my essays and recommendations are amazing and I get my SAT scores MUCH higher, what are my chances?

Thanks so much in advance!

I’d say a low match, meaning you have a good 40-50% chance for these schools. One reason: Black [female]. These are like 99%+ for AA so I think you have an awesome shot. an sat above 1700 is really rare and so the Ivies would be happy to have you.

Good luck !

(The math and CR are hard to improve. SO I imagine you can maybe hit 1950-2000? Try to get an 800 on the writing, but you’re kind of stuck on the math though. )

^ I don’t normally comment on chance threads, but math is not hard to improve AT ALL. When I first took my SAT, I got a 620 on my math, but after a couple months of prep, I got a 800. No lie. You just need to take a whole hecka amount of practice tests and get used to the types of problems that show up. I do agree that CR is hard to improve though.

40-50 percent chance at HYPS… johnwaas is a bit delusional there.

So far it looks like you’re on track. Get that 2250 which you’re so certain you’ll get and you’ll have pretty much the same chances as any other typical high-achieving teen. I’d say get 2350 though, which is like… erm, impossible. I have a 2240 and I’m quite afraid…

So I’ll say REACH with your projected stats.

P.S. Try out the ACT?

dancingwriter, did you use any SAT prep books to raise your math score? If so, which ones?

And thanks so much everyone!!! I’m definitely going to boost my score higher. I’m aiming for 2350, but I didn’t want to seem like I’m aiming TOO high. So, besides the SAT scores, what are my other weak areas?

(And forgot to add this to my ECs/awards, may not make a difference anyways…)
-I was also on a student regional commission board, where we studied local educational, environmental issues and then presented them to the actual regional commission and they voted on whether they actually wanted to implement them or not.

 • Local leadership program for fall 2013
 • State semi-finalist for biology governor’s program

@sciencegirl314 those are certainly reaches for ANYONE, even with your profile. However, you’re certainly determined, and you WILL get there with that commitment.

Please chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1594388-will-transfer-better-school-help-me-get-into-my-top-schools-ea.html

@menacing, i think johnwass was on point when he said those colleges were between 40-50% chance if she can get to 2250. AA is extremely beneficial to URMs.

Ok, thank you! But do I actually have good chance or not…(especially at Harvard)? I seem to be getting varied responses… :/

And does being black really give me THAT much of an edge?
