Academics:
All honors or Ap classes (total 8) since 9th grade, straight A's
A averages in college courses over the summer
rank 10/6XX
gpa: 4.55/4.6

extracurric's:
too many to list (community service, 2 sports, student government, leadership positions in three organizations, three insturments, three languages, academic clubs, science internship etc..)

awards:
many academic (biology, chemistry, physics), service, and leadership awards. congressional medals (bronze, silver, and gold), awards from my church and community
national achievement
venture scholar (i dont really kno what that means!)
more but i dont feel like listing

recommendations:
I think they will be good because both teachers asked me if they could write them because they thought I was one of their best students in many years.

I have a really high gpa 4.55/4.6 and with this semester's grades it will be even higher bc I have straight A's in 6 ap classes. (I think like a 4.59/4.6)

Most people say high gpa w/ low sats shows grade inflation in an easy school, but my hs is ranked in the top 100 schools in the nation. There aren't many people who have taken all honors/ap throughout hs, and even less who do so w/ all a's (im ranked in the top 1%, and it should jump after this semester).

Do you think my grades will make up for my low scores for Duke

I think with the increase in applicants, they might see my mere 1920 and laugh. With my scores I dont think I have any chance!!

Duke is my top but Im also applying to:
cornell
columbia
harvard
stanford
northwestern
jhu
princeton
brown
cmu

I'd say:

Duke: Match (yes, your grades will probably offset your test scores, which are pretty good anyway)
cornell: Match
columbia: Match
harvard: Match
stanford: Match/reach
northwestern: Match
jhu: Match/reach (?)
princeton: Match/reach
brown: Match
cmu: Not sure

Make sure you get As in your calculus BC course, and score a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. That'll most likely shut down any anxieties the committee might have about your SAT-M score. Venture scholar is actually pretty significant: a few of the schools you have listed are part of the consortium.

^has no clue what he is talking about.

So, he's a match for Harvard and Brown but a reach for Johns Hopkins?

What are you basing this on?

Err.. a 1920? Can you not take that again and get higher? With those grades and pretty much a perfect application, you might want to get rid of that blemish.

I already took it twice, i might take the act just incase i get waitlisted, i dont know why i did so bad. i mean a 1920 is still good comapared to the nat av, but it does not reflect my true capacity, im thinking the act is better for me

and minamora, you are very optimistic abt the ivies

I thought you'd be a match at most of these places because of your high grades, URM status, community service, and participation in Venture Scholars (Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and Princeton are all members). Sorry if this assessment seems overly optimistic, but I think you'd be a good candidate for these places, based on my experience with pipeline programs and the institutions that participate in them.

thanx, I think i would fit in great at these schools too. hopefully my low sats dont hold me back

Seriously, take the SATs again, if not just to show the adcoms that standardized tests are no problem for you. And don't even think about the national average if you're applying to these schools... do you think the kids that get an 1800 think "Oh I'm above the nat'l average now I'll apply to the Ivies"?

No.
