Please Chance me for Lehigh, UVA, and UMich

Hey everyone, college application season is here and I am really lost. Can someone please chance me for Lehigh, UVA, and UMich

Please be honest, much appreciated!

I will be applying ED2 to Lehigh, RD to UVA, and RD to UMich

Stats: Weighted GPA: 87.3 (3.2) (I had a part time job in high school but after I left that
job my gpa kept increasing)
I will be going test optional
I took a total of 4 aps, 1 science , 2 maths, and 1 in the ELA department

Intended Major: Finance

Extracurriculars: - Assistant coach for girls basketball team

  • Founder of a club dedicated to eliminating scarcity of women in the
    economic/business fields
  • Active seller on Poshmark/Mercari (online shopping websites)
  • 9 month internship with a program that trains me for a job on Wall
    Street
  • Accepted to a program with Morgan Stanley that exposes minorities to
    finance
  • Founder of a club that gives out skincare advice and routines to people
affected by acne or other skin disorders
  • Participated in a program in which I tutored 7th graders for a total of 8
    months
  • NYC ambassador for “LetHerLearn”

Awards- A $1,000 scholarship

  • A $500 scholarship
-My school doesn’t give out awards, so the only thing I could do was sign up for
    scholarships

Background: - My parents are from India but I was born here

  • middle class
  • Will be the first person to attend college in both of my parents families
  • I go to a competitive NYC high school
  • Will need a lot of financial aid but I can find a way to still pay
  • I speak 4 languages, including English

A 3.2 is low for all three schools. Why not look instate? I doubt Michigan or Virginia will offer financial aid for OOS students.

All 3 of these schools are reaches. UMich Ross is likely not even a realistic reach. What is your unweighted GPA?

I won’t discourage you from applying, but make sure you are applying to several match schools and at least one affordable safety. What is your affordable safety?

UVA meets full need (however they calculate it) for all undergrads.

Unless “I can find a way to still pay” means something like “my extended family has the money to pay and are happy to do so”, take UMi off your list. You can’t (and shouldn’t!) borrow enough to pay for it.

IMO UVa is a very high reach for you, partly for financial reasons, and partly academic. UVa does ‘meet need’ for OOS students- but they are ‘need aware’ and the odds on you clearing that hurdle are
tiny. UVa has a 25% OOS student cap, and the acceptance rate for OOS students is about 15%.

This needs some clarification if respondents are to provide useful answers.

Exactly how much money can your family pay for your college education? Zero? $5000? $20,000? $60,000? Unlimited budget?

The answer will make the responses more relevant for your situation.

All three schools will be reaches. Shoot your shot but spend your time finding affordable match and safety schools.

@EconPop , my budget for college tuition is $20,000 per year. When I am a sophomore in college, one of my siblings will be a freshman in college and when I am a senior in college, my other sibling will be a freshman in college- which I believe lowers tuition for me.

What does Lehigh’s net price calculator estimate for your annual cost? https://npc.collegeboard.org/app/lehigh

If this number does not look affordable to your parents, do not apply ED2.

@Mwfan1921 , I did check the calculator and it was just the perfect number for my parents and I. However, I feel as if there will be a lot of competition for Lehigh this year.

If you’re running a 3.2 weighted, then I’m thinking the unweighted is going to be lower. That being said, none of these schools are realistic options. I agree with the above advice. Just focus your energy on good solid match/safety schools.
