Please chance me for Northwestern ED, Cornell, UPenn, and more - will chance back!

Hey everyone, I am applying to Northwestern ED, UPenn (Arts/Sciences), Columbia, Cornell (Hotel, AEM, or Arts/Sciences), Carnegie Mellon (Tepper), Georgetown SFS, NYU Stern, Tufts, WashU (Olin), Emory, UMich, UCLA, Berkeley, and Rutgers.

I'm going to visit Northwestern in about two weeks, and as long as the vibe and campus aren't atrocious (they probably won't be), I'll be set to ED. I plan on going into consulting/business/law, and my majors of interest are Economics/International Relations/Business. However, I would still like to take some classes in World/Asian History, Bio, Physics, and Computers since they are also interesting to me. I would also love to take advantage of any opportunities for visual art and acting/film/directing-related stuff. Here are some of my stats, and you can check out my old post to see more (although it's kinda outdated).

Weighted GPA: 4.27 out of 4/5 scale (School does not give unweighted)

SAT: 800 m, 770 cr/w, 2340 total
Subject Tests: 790 w history, 790 bio eco, 770 math 2
AP Tests: all 5s on the following: Calc I, Phys I, Macroecon, Lang/Comp, Psych, and US Gov.

Around top 10% in class (maybe slightly below), School is public, extremely competitive, and top-ranked in state.

Asian Male (this will probably also hurt me)

High Course Rigor, but quite a few B's mainly in English and Spanish classes, but also AP Calc (This really worries me). I am taking the following APs this year: Calculus BC, Biology, Spanish, English Literature/Composition, Statistics, and Studio Art (not on schedule).

Extracurriculars:

Varsity Debate - Novice State Champion, JV State Quarterfinalist, Top 16/32 at 2 ivy league invitational tournaments, also Public Relations Officer for School Debate Team (10,11,12)

Varsity Swimming for High School Team, previously swam at Counties, and used to swim for YMCA/Silver-ranked club and qualified to Junior Olympics in 200 breaststroke (9,10,11,12)

Varsity Academic Quiz Bowl, team placed 2nd in county last year (9,10,11,12)

Trying to jumpstart an arts-related nonprofit (PM me if you're interested)

Art Shows/Graphic Design/Illustration for Project Pay it Forward and School Newspaper

Current Events/News/Politics article writer for 3 publications (one is school based which I am a senior staff writer, one is a friend's blog, another is a NY-based professional blog)

YMCA Volunteering

Summer Intern at Cancer Support Center

Certified Lifeguard (Haven't worked yet though, will this summer).

Languages: English, Mandarin, Spanish - want to take Japanese in college.

Awards: AP Scholar with Distinction, District Recognition for Debate Champion, 3rd Place in Art/Poetry Contest, National Art Honor Society, Special Distinction in National Forensics League.

I don't know much about financial aid, but I was raised by a single mom if that matters. My essays/recs should be pretty solid. If you want to chance me for other schools that would be great. Thanks for taking your time to read this!

You’re pretty competitive for all the schools. Good ECs, decent GPA, amazing SAT. It’s just down to luck now. I would definitely be surprised if none of those schools accepted you. Good luck!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1690007-claremont-mckenna-duke-bucknell-grinnell-uofr-chances.html

You have a high match - low reach status for all of the listed schools, but make sure your GPA doesnt suffer too bad this year. If your essays are solid, I would say you have a great chance.

Good luck, and thanks for chancing me earlier

Thanks for the chances so far!

I guess you are from NY. An Asian from NY is a bad combo :(

Having said that, I think you have a >70% chance for Northwestern ED (I think they accept 30% of all applicants). And if you don’t get in there, I think you are a match for all of your other schools except Columbia and Penn (low reaches). Need to get that Math II score up tho!

I think you have great odds with many of the schools you’re applying to. Your GPA, scores, class rank, and ECs all make you competitive, and if you have great essays, I’m sure you’ll get lots of acceptances. Good luck!

Thanks guys! Just so you know, there are a good amount of kids at my school who have a lot more leadership and/or higher GPAs. It just so happens that my grade and school in general is really competitive about colleges, and a lot of kids went off and started pointless clubs or got arbitrary internships just to look good for colleges, which worries me. In fact, a lot of my friends are “smarter” than me and are still anxious about getting into colleges on my list, and I think there are just too many kids from my school with similar or better stats which is disconcerting. Actually, there are some kids in past years who had 4.5+ GPAs who only made their safety schools. I should probably rephrase “top 10%” as “around 88th-90th percentile” (no more) to make that more clear.

Thanks again for chancing me, and feel free to leave links if you want me to chance you! Sorry for all the depressing talk. I hope I don’t sound too pretentiously troubled, if that makes sense :expressionless:

bump

Definitely a good shot at all of them, especially ED. Chance me!

Great shot at all, with maybe reach for northwestern and Columbia. If you get the Art nonprofit going that’d be a big boost. Good luck!

The best extracurriculars I have seen to this date on this site.

Your stats are incredible! And your ECs really make you stand out. You have a strong chance of getting into all the schools you are applying to. Congrats!

Best of Luck! Chance me back please

Thanks so far everyone!

Your Gpa and sat scores are pretty good. Your clubs are also show that you have specific interest. I guess it is all up to your essays now :D

I can’t really tell what your passion is through your ECs. That is the only thing i can say.

Most of these schools are ultra competitive, so all of them would probably fall into the high match/low reach; you definetely have a great shot though! Good luck! Thanks for chancing me

Thanks for chancing me guys! And yeah, I have to admit my ECs are pretty unfocused, even If I do genuinely enjoy or benefit from them. A lot of other kids specifically do ECs that relate to their future career interest/major, which is good for them. Too bad I can’t say the same really, haha.
